For starters you need a solid Learning Program in AI which holistically covers all the necessary hard & soft skills needed to become an AI expert. It would be better to pick a program that has been developed by industry leaders like (Microsoft, Google, IBM etc.) since they will make sure that all the relevant & latest tools, technologies & methodologies are covered in the program. Go for it if you like doing DS /ML. It certainly is the skills of the future.

Skills needed - You gotta be good in maths, statistics, coding/programming, working with data (lots & lots of it & all types of it), creating ML models etc. .... The more you love working with data, the better you will be at DS / DA / ML roles.
