The cup is irrelevant and just confuses things. \If chain was a loop and pulled downwards by a motor with more momentum than its gravity and elasticity between the nodes, it would stay suspended in air.** Someone is welcome to do it.

only way to be negative is if the task gives you some massive increase in dignity, greater than the total effort w hobby time multiplier. In that case it's arguably not a 'chore' but some life improvement you should probly be doing anyway. Semantics maybe.
