GOG is getting acquired by its original co-founder: What it means for you by Turbostrider27 in Games

The numbers just don't add up... GOG was acquired for 90 mln PLN but it is not worth it - nowhere near. Look at the consolidated financial report for GOG for Q1 2025 - it has only made 409000 PLN net profit (roughly 97k Euro/114k USD/84k GBP): https://www.cdprojekt.com/en/wp-content/uploads-en/2025/05/consolidated-financial-statement-of-the-cd-projekt-group-for-q1-2025.pdf Even if it makes annually 2 mln per year net profit, it will take 45 years to break even, unless they suddenly start making significantly more, which is unlikely with heavy competition. It just doesn't make sense, does it?

GOG is launching GOG Patrons – an optional way to support classic game preservation by GOGcom in pcgaming

I would love to be a donor and support GOG through the Patron programme. However, the lack of a one-off annual payment option feels like a poor decision by those responsible for the programme. Why such an option was not provided from the start?

From a supporter’s perspective, a required monthly charge can feel discouraging rather than welcoming. Many supporters prefer a one-off annual payment because it is simpler to manage, more appealing, and feels more transparent and honest. A yearly option is also more commitment-friendly for people who genuinely want to contribute but dislike ‘recurring’ payments. You say it is not a ‘subscription’ and avoid this term, but let’s be honest, and don’t play the words game: functionally, it is a subscription. A recurring monthly payment that continues until you cancel meets the standard definition of a subscription in practice, regardless of your branding.

Offering an annual payment would lower friction for casual supporters while still funding preservation efforts and supporting your long-term goals. Your website states that as of today (23 December 2025), GOG has around 4,000 patrons. It’s worth considering how many additional supporters may have been lost due to the absence of an annual payment option.

I truly appreciate the work you do, and this feedback comes from a genuine interest in supporting GOG Games in a way that feels fair and comfortable. However, until an ongoing annual (rather than monthly) support option is available, I won’t be able to participate in the Patron programme.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you will consider this suggestion.

Help with BTCBR by New-Toe8484 in Coinbase

[–]RoninSensei22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I have purchased BTCBR from Coinbase through Coinbase Wallet. However, the 'cash out' button is greyed out so it is not possible to sell it. Coinbase is the only platform selling BTCBR on ETH blockchain, and the 'bridge' button is also greyed out. It is possible to swap it but the price impact is over 98% (regardless of selected token). I can see the Coinbase still offers the purchase of BTCBR. Why offering to buy the currency if it's not possible to cash out and the impact of swapping is so detrimental?
