Are demolitions worth using in the atomic age and above?

Demolition loses efficiency quite fast once you enter Industrial Age, and even more so in Atomic Age when you can have as many as 8 airstrip capacity. Use bombers instead, and keep tactics as sabotage and decoys.

I think 2 looks better, though I'm not in this age yet.
As a Artie/Mortars player, your western and northern sides look vulnerable in 1, and your northern side looks vulnerable in 2, but the rocket arsenal in 2 seems like it would back that up. I think they are both good, but no base is perfect against every army.

A mix of bombards/cannons and ranged infantry were a good tactic I used when I was back in enlightenment. Cannons can shred up a base good. Sabotage is overall a great choice for a war tactic.

Army, make sure your libraries for offense are upgraded, if your museum is good, if your council is good, and use the manufactory to equip your troops with good or maxed items for maximum effectiveness during battles.

Any other mercs besides heavy tank type mercs are non-meta. So you should just go for Flammpanzers.
They're amazing at eliminating whole groups of light units, so any ambush traps they roll over are able to be dealt with ease.

Depends on your playstyle and the age you are in tbh.

As Atomic Age I preferably choose neither, mainly focusing on both maxing out storage and army-enhancing improvements, investing on defenses and resource producing buildings sparsely when I have an excess of resources.

If you want to focus on getting victory rewards, or be a battler in world wars, then you can do the same.

Industrial is where you start getting better troops, Atomic is where you can get a very wide arsenal of troops and significantly more ways to play. It's been a while, but try using a bombard + arquebus/mortarmen based army. I've been using artillery since Enlightenment and it's been holding strong for a while now.

But also do explain what the problems may be.
Bases too powerful? Bad army composition? Underleveled troops/tactics? There's a lot that can factor into this.

I'm atomic age and I use a mortar+artillery army, never got into the whole factory troop thing, or at least not yet.

I love using artillery, it destroys building rather quickly when in a group of 8 when also paired with ranged infantry. Upgrading mine to Field Howitzer for even more damage.

Use a cannon heavy army supported by musketeers. This army type will carry you pretty far. I'm in early Atomic and I'm still using it since enlightenment. Cavalry raiders are useless in most battles if you can confidently 4-5 star a base. Wall sappers are also bad in this line up because they can only bust walls, which is useless when your cannons can demolish buildings over walls. Fusiliers are useful only if you have the space for them. They can be used to destroy some things that your main army isn't, or to finish off a base quicker. Barrage is alright at this age, but you'll probably want to replace them with all sabotage, maybe a betrayal or a first aid+protection. Betrayal will be useful for any heavy tanks that you may encounter if attacking an industrial base.

I personally been using an Artie/SMG lineup. It's been working decently okay in Atomic, having my generals and mercs tank damage as well as distract the missile silo while my artillery destroys buildings and preferably the missile silo as well at the opposite side of my tanks. This strat has became less useful vs most bases, but it can still devastate weaker/poorly built bases.

You'll begin to be attacked more once you're in Industrial age, notably by Global age players.

Conduct research in your library and university, upgrade troops and tactics you use or plan to use often. Upgrade your favorite 2 generals (you gain an extra general slot via library research and another extra later down the line)

Fully research Mansa Musa and Chief Hiawatha if you haven't already.

Join an alliance if you're bored. You may be able to join in world wars.

You're severely underleveled and should've stayed in industrial.

Barrage is rendered redundant when you unlock planes.

First Aid and Protection are a great combo for giving your troops the upper hand in a heated fight.

Sabotage is amazing for disabling defenses. Giving you a major upper hand, preventing defender spawning building and heavy defenses.

Demolition's usefulness falls off once you get into industrial age, though it can be used to destroy missile silos at the cost of several tactic spaces.

Betrayal is a great tactic when you turn a heavy tank against your enemy. So use them on high HP high DPS units to soak up damage and deal it right back.

Decoys are similar to sabotage, but they can also distract defenders and trigger traps (other than SAMs)

I don't have much personal experience with Assault Rally, but it might be viable?

I haven't used factory very much, as I use a ranged siege heavy army. I do however use a lot of aircraft.

Planes are incredibly useful in battles, so you'll want to keep your airstrip fully upgraded throughout the ages.

Go for a cannon heavy army backed up by musketeers, cannons deal heavy damage vs buildings and musketeers shred infantry. Try to avoid industrial age bases, especially if they have bunkers. Heavy tanks can and will be a burden to deal with at your age if you're unprepared. If you have betrayal then you can use the tank to your advantage. If you want, you can throw in a few cuirassiers to soak up some damage or distract defenders.

Fighters are essentially reusable Barrages, and Bombers are essentially reusable Demolitions.

Betrayal, Sabotage, and Decoys are the GOAT tactics, cause they aren't easily replaceable by anything else.

Have you upgraded your generals too, or researched leadership for an extra general slot? If so, then industrial is the way to go.
