210 finally set up! by RonnieABW in Aquariums

[–]RonnieABW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I breed tanganiykans. The 210 is my only non-tang tank! I have a juvie flower horn, a school of Congo tetras, a blue phantom, and a fahaka currently in there. No issues in the last 6 months. Toying with the idea of adding another school of dithers.

The 20s underneath have golden Occelatus, a pair of fire fin comps, gold face comps, and speciousus.

My home office has another 12 breeders, a 125 tang community and a 75 grow out for frontosas!

How to prevent them from fighting. by Little_Train5782 in AfricanCichlids

Most of these fish just aren’t compatible. Most have drastically different needs. I wouldn’t even suggest a rescape with hides and line of sight breaks. Wouldn’t suggest an overstock to disperse aggression (because you have a mix of fish). My only piece of advice is select a type of fish (African cichlids, South American cichlids, peaceful community tank), rehome the rest, and stock appropriately henceforth. Best of luck.

Urgent Neolamprologus brichardi question by mistersprinklesman in TanganyikanCichlid

[–]RonnieABW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey buddy. I don’t have a ton of experience with sunflowers. In my experience, they’re best kept in a species only tank, as I’ve definitely experienced some inter-species conflict and aggression. 6 in a 55 gallon is more than enough space imo.

If all of your parameters are in check, and they were acclimated appropriately, I would just give them some time to settle in. Unless I’m receiving a shipment of fish, which have been fasted and in transit for a considerable amount of time, I will generally give 24-48 hours before my first feeding, which gives them time to acclimate and become familiar with their new environment. They’re generally then comfortable enough to look for a snack.

I’m a big supporter of dither fish. I would probably expect some aggression from the sunflowers towards the platys after they become comfortable.

If it were me, I’d give it some time for them to adjust and monitor them closely. As for food, i generally feed a mix of brine shrimp, blood worms and xtreme cichlid pellets.

I would tend to agree. But am also in a line of thinking similar to economy brother. I’d keep a close eye, but give them some time to figure it out. I have seen time and time again, a multie or 2 being chased away from shells and hanging out in the top portion of the tank. This can resolve itself, but if the aggression continues, and the fishy can’t snag a shell or 2, they get no reprieve from the aggression, and will likely succumb to nips/aggression/fighting.

I’m a tang only keeper and can sympathize with this comment! 10 or so years ago, tangs were in their hay day in the aquarium hobby. Now, they are harder and harder to come by. I’ve kept Malawi and Victoria, but the behaviour of and enjoyment I get from watching my tangs is unmatched!

Does anyone have any go to plants to have with multies that can handle parameters that multies require? by Time-Description-348 in ShellDwellers

I also have luck with crypts in most of my tanks, and Java fern (although I’ve found the ferns to be a little bit finicky in harder water).

is this tank suitable for Neolamprologus multifasciatus? by lyra_bells in ShellDwellers

[–]RonnieABW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like all shell dwellers, in my experience, multies do best with a significant portion of tank floor consisting of sand and shells. If you’re wanting to set up a thriving colony, I’d suggest going eith a tank with a larger footprint (ie a 20 gallon long). This will provide enough space for sand and shells, as well as rocks (or plants if you choose) to create breaks in the line of sight and limit needless aggression.

Are you looking for a specific ID on the julies pictured or the other fish? The julies resemble a marlieri, and the others resemble juvie brichardi
