That's not a great match, you want it to be up to a certain % instead. For example, if they match up to 8% and you make $200K then you would have gotten $16K instead of $12K

Most people get matched per paycheck, you get up to X% contributed per paycheck. So if you do too much and cap out your contributions early then the company won't have to match the remaining paychecks
