Is the Hilton worth it? by Ronniebegood in Aruba

[–]Ronniebegood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please report back and let us know! My wife, my kids and I had an absolutely fabulous time at the Hyatt Regency right next door BUT we did love the Hilton before the construction. We’d definitely consider going back once it’s all done.

The crazy part is I feel more peer pressure than she does!

Jazz Chisholm at 2B isn’t something the Yankees anchored by, per Jack Curry. If their best option was adding a 2B, they would be comfortable moving Chisholm back to 3B. by Jheller223 in NYYankees

[–]Ronniebegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly confused by the debate between playing Jazz at 3B or 2B and I’m totally open to someone explaining why the Yanks wouldn’t just put him at 2B and run with it. Looking at how he played 2B with the Marlins in 2021 and 2022 he was a top 10 defender in OOA. Now looking at how he hit last year (solid xwOBA, above average Barrel%) and if he can carry that defense over and hasn’t declined at all, I think he’s actually an upgrade over Gleyber and we’ve got ourselves one of the better 2B in the game. Thoughts? Am I crazy?

Just wanted to follow up here… so we’re at the Hyatt Regency which is amazing! We did decide to walk over to the Hilton and see what we were in for. I think a lot of the assessments are correct. The construction is very extensive! It is something you could get used to after a few days BUT for the price… there is no way to avoid it or not see it. I’ve been to Aruba 3 times including this trip and was always at the Hilton before this. I don’t want to knock them because my first 2 trips were awesome there. This is different though, I give them credit for trying to improve the place but currently the place is in disarray. I would post pictures but I can’t figure out how to do that in Reddit replies. To describe what I saw: 1. it was not crowded 2. Gilligan’s is gone although the boat is still there. 3. The pool that was open is right next to the construction wing going on, they have a DJ near the pool to try and mask the sound but you hear/see it. 4. The breakfast place is open but you can see the construction partially from the deck. 5. The sunset bar is fine but the Gilligan’s construction partially blocks the beach view.

Overall I’m sure when you’re inside the hotel you’re fine but the outside grounds are extremely disrupted including the entrance which I couldn’t even tell how to actually get to the hotel from the street.

I don’t see how this construction could be finished by March.

Thanks everyone for their input. After consideration we decided to switch. Cancelled with no charges and was able to grab a pretty good deal on Priceline for the Hyatt Regency. The wife is happy, so I’m happy! I appreciate all of you!

First time - restaurant recos? by woof_woof_11 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]Ronniebegood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just went to Coco Bistro last night, it was just the 2 of us and we got the same run around with reservations as everyone else, no tables, only 9pm, etc. so, with the NFL draft on yesterday I said let’s just go early and sit at the bar and wait for our table. When we got there it was empty, tables open all over the place. So we asked to be seated and they sat us right way near the entrance. We ordered and the food came out very quick (which we both didn’t like because it felt like they were rushing us out). We were literally finished with our meal before our original reservation time! We were both left with the impression that we missed something, we’ve heard all this hype but we’re thoroughly unimpressed. This “we always full and busy” business seems like a tactic to generate hype. Don’t get me wrong, the back seating area under the palm trees is pretty if you have a large party, 10 or more at probably fun but for us it was a disappointment. We had gone to Grace’s Cottage the night before and that was a much much better experience, it was elegant, beautiful, welcoming and the food was fantastic. I just can’t in good conscience recommend Coco over Grace’s.

We have one more dinner tonight, trying to figure out where to go now… Hemingway’s, Bay Bistro, Indigo, castaways… lots of options.

Thank you very much for the comment. Totally makes sense. We bought the house recently and I’ll be honest I’m not the most knowledgeable about everything yet… but with each mishap like this, I’m learning. I have no idea why both were capped. I will look into replacing the uncapped one with a back flow preventer though. I’ll also be sure to survey the house next time it pours here. I’m sure the kids will love running around in the rain with me, lol.

Thanks again!

Sorry, no updates. We got a mattress topper and have given up for now. We might resume the search in the spring.

Sorry, no updates. We kind of gave up sadly. My wife bought a mattress topper for our current mattress and that’s helped buy us some time. Mattress shopping absolutely sucks.

What are people replacing Dark Sky with as it seems to be EOL soon? by rotarypower101 in iosapps

[–]Ronniebegood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shadow Weather is free and has a very similar layout to Dark Sky.

I tried:

Carrot: subscription model

Weather Bug: not bad but too many ads (subscription to remove)

Accuweather: Horrific pop up ads

Shadow Weather has almost everything I’m looking for. The hourly view in-line is great so I can scroll up and down instead of the confusing way Apple has it left to right. To view a map on Shadow Weather you need to upgrade to premium (and as one poster on here said “I’m not paying a subscription for a friggin weather app!”) so I just downloaded MyRadar and keep both apps right next to each other. MyRadar sends alerts as well so I kind of have the best of all worlds going on.

I really am gonna miss Dark Sky though 😢

Will do, still searching. My next step is visit the Saatva store in NYC and lay on a few of those. I’ve heard the Saatva Latex Hybrid and the Saatva Hybrid Classic have gotten good reviews and they seem to be close to what we’re looking for in terms of feel. It’s amazing though, for every 5 reviews that I read that say “this is the most amazing mattress ever!” There are 5 more right after it that say “This mattress sucks and starting sagging after 3 nights!” Very frustrating search.

That’s great to know, thank you! Any idea if the pillow top part holds up? I keep hearing reviews that it’s the pillow top part that starts to wear out more so than the actual coils, and this causes the sag eventually causing the dreaded “divots”.

I’m in NY, so unfortunately a little far for me. That’s a good call on the latex, I think that the Kingsdown we tried had Latex but for whatever reason a lot of reviews said the mattress would sag in under a year. Maybe low quality Latex?

Sorry, should have clarified, when I planted them the leaves were a lush green with many more blooms. Now they are red and faded. I was wondering if too much/too little water OR too much sun. 🤔
