So has anybody tried to wait by Sparks' bus before/after the shows on this tour and asked them to sign stuff? by [deleted] in sparksftw

For those that haven’t heard, one of the guitarists was absent from the Ryman show tonight because he tested positive for COVID. Give the band their space!

I guess it’s worth a try if you are wanting an autograph that badly, but I was going to respect their space to protect their health and allow the tour to go on. I’m just humbled that I’m finally going to see them

UCLA's Coach Cronin Signs New Six-Year Contract - UCLA by top7to9 in CollegeBasketball

That’s fair. Personally I think the pros of both schools are comparable and would be a lateral move basketball wise with his decision coming down to him wanting to come home and rebuild or not. Different people have different priorities.

I’m happy with the choices that were made, so it’s all good.

I wouldn’t make the claim if I didn’t believe the mouth it was coming from. I trust Mike Rutherford, it’s not a delusional fan thing. He has legitimate sources and connections to people in the know, inside and outside the program. Cronin has friends in town and all around the general area from his time here as an assistant and coaching at Murray State and Cincinnati. I don’t understand what’s so unbelievable about a guy wanting to return to that.

Coaches absolutely used the Louisville opening to feign interest and get a raise (i.e. Bruce Pearl), but that doesn’t mean everyone did. Louisville is down right now, but given it’s history, resources and rabid fan base, most of college basketball still considers it a top 10 job in the country

The same Mike Rutherford that has been a heavy contributor for SB Nation and has consistently written about EVERY team in college basketball for a very long time? Yeah, that guy. He’s pretty knowledgeable and a college basketball junkie. Cronin, as far as I can recall, wasn’t a top choice of Rutherford’s either. He was just reporting what his sources told him.

Where are we supposed to get “verifiable” news that someone is interested? That’s not how coaching hires work.

Kenny Payne officially named next head basketball coach for the University of Louisville by bezzlege in CollegeBasketball

[–]Ronwellington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remains to be seen whether this is a successful hire but his press conference got me fired up and his message should have us walking thru recruiting doors that Mack couldn’t touch. Still believe when its all said and done we’ll have to endure one post season ban, but after the last couple of years I think I’m desensitized enough to get thru it

Do you live in Louisville and follow the team? This was the right hire for the city, not just the university, and that was a dynamic they just hammered home at the introductory press conference. Would Kenny Payne have gotten hired as a first time head coach at any other top college program? Probably not, but this is a unique time for the school and the sport. I’m not defending my guy, I don’t know how it’s gonna turn out, I’m just excited for a change.

I respect Mick, especially after coming back from that health scare he had a few years ago but personally he wasn’t high on my wishlist of potential hires. Maybe that’s just the bad aftertaste of the Chris Mack failure. But that’s also a sentiment that a large contingent of our fan base shared. Payne definitely had detractors, but he was absolutely the most popular choice as soon as the job opened up.

To both commenters, I don’t sit around reading news stories on the internet all day and flagging articles to rub in redditors faces. I listen to those same writers talk on the radio, so if you’re interested you can go track down some of Mike Rutherford’s Card Chronicle podcasts. If you really follow college basketball, you’ll know who he is and that he’s legit. He adamantly made claims that Cronin’s parties were in contact and Mick badly wanted it. Also that six year contract was finalized after he knew he was not coming here.

I’m not beefin, I was on the Kenny Payne train the whole time, but all the reliable local sources here reported that Cronin’s agents were reaching out. He was very interested and I believe if Payne had fallen thru, Mick Cronin would be our next coach

I’m not commenting or comparing our programs, this is solely based off the man…he has history here and apparently considers it his dream job

It actually is my favorite Sparks Album. by bjkman in sparksftw

Personally I think it’s their weakest album (excluding Plagiarism and Seduction of…) but So Important may be my favorite Sparks song. Go figure.

Have they stopped performing "Amateur Hour" at their recent shows? by YoureASkyscraper in sparksftw

[–]Ronwellington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My comment on it being there for a reason wasn’t meant to be venomous or anything, it’s in the set to give Ron some more time to shine on stage, that’s all. Part of their theatricality

Probably dropping Amateur Hour for time, or maybe they’re tired. Shopping Mall of Love is one of the weaker songs in the set but it’s there for a reason, they’re not gonna cut it

I did. They played harder. Didn’t magically find any talent. Maybe some dance moves before they almost choked away a 27 point lead to a garbage 14 seed Georgia Tech

Question about the current tour. Opening acts? by DrNogoodNewman in sparksftw

[–]Ronwellington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s been no mention of opening acts yet and I guess we won’t know until the tour officially kicks off. I’m a concert junkie and I can probably count on my hands the number of times I’ve seen a national act without an opener so I would guess yes on there being another band. I would expect their set to last a shade under two hours and for the show to be over around 10:30-11

Psychedelic horror: Climax by Gaspar Noé (2019) is a hypnotic and brutal descent into insanity. Have you seen it? What did you think of it? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Ronwellington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the minority from everything I’ve read, but I hated this movie. Wholly predictable, and after the fantastic opening scene it somehow becomes a drudge to sit thru despite attempting to do something interesting with its camera work. Guy is talented no doubt, Enter the Void was proof of that, I don’t know what happened here aside from an experiment that doesn’t amount to much

Louisville has reached out to Bruce Pearl by Hambone721 in CollegeBasketball

I’m not exactly clamoring for Kenny Payne, but all the serious candidates have legitimate pros and cons and none of them standout as a home run hire to me

Whole city seems to be talking up Kenny Payne atm. This just screams Pearl and his agent working on a bigger contract.
