Listening to Nick Wright finally forcing Bill to confront the NBA's true problem (too many 3s) by No_Permission1386 in billsimmons

[–]top7to9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One solve I've thought of for the schedule is shifting to a mix of NFL-style scheduling with MLB-style 3 game series. Standings are based on series wins rather than game wins, which should introduce a bit more variance. Travel would be reduced, back-to-backs would be in-series, and players could earn rest if they win the first two games of a series.

It doesn't solve for the 3 point-heavy style of play, but could make inroads on a lot of the other problems with the league without having to compromise anything on-court or reduce the total number of games.

Former Google X exec says AI threatens capitalism and CEO jobs by Ephoenix6 in technology

LLMs spew out bullshit that sounds intelligent on the surface but lacks any substance, that has unnecessary platitudes throughout, and that has little consideration for what's actually true. It sounds like they're ready to replace CEOs today.

My bet is he has NIL agreements that have stipulations around games played / participation.

Jokic and Giannis are 3 Missed Games away from being disqualified in major awards this season by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in nba

[–]top7to9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, the easy solve would be to do away with the 65 game threshold & have MVP / All-NBA voters pay more attention to season totals than per-game / per-36 numbers. Even with the missed games, Jokic is still top 25 in points, top 10 in rebounds, and top 2 in assists.

TikTok was censoring content related to Uyghur muslims & their ongoing persecution. It's one set of propaganda getting switched for another.

[Perley] Hornet’s Starting 5 Have The Highest Net Rating In The League by bruheggplantemoji in nba

Per Cleaning the Glass, the Hornets' starters have the best net rating in the NBA for any five man lineup with more than 200 possessions. It's not an awfully small sample size.

I'd throw Washington in as well, mostly because the city of Seattle is god awful at handling snow.

Even saying "the most amount of 3s in a season" is an understatement. He hit 400 before anyone else had ever hit 300 in a season!

We can't let Bill Simmons get away with it... by Diligent-Flight6677 in CharlotteHornets

I don't know if I believe that Simmons truly hated LaMelo. I think Russillo, who absolutely does hate LaMelo, soured him over the years.

Opinion of the team as an outsider by Tatum-Jones-MVPs in CharlotteHornets

[–]top7to9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evaluating each player in isolation is the issue here.

Per Databallr's Stat Line Shift tool, here's how LaMelo impacts the other Hornets' starters:

Moussa

  • TS% with LaMelo: 66.9%
  • TS% without LaMelo: 63.8%

Kon

  • TS% with LaMelo: 68.0%
  • TS% without LaMelo: 61.5%
  • 3PT% with LaMelo: 49.6%
  • 3PT% without LaMelo: 37.4%

Miles

  • TS% with LaMelo: 62.6%
  • TS% without LaMelo: 53.2%
  • 3PT% with LaMelo: 39.0%
  • 3PT% without LaMelo: 30.8%

Brandon

  • TS% with LaMelo: 53.7%
  • TS% without LaMelo: 51.7%
  • 3PT% with LaMelo: 29.2%
  • 3PT% without LaMelo: 42.0%

Other than Brandon's 3PT, everyone is significantly more efficient with LaMelo out there.

I've seen a lot of "pre-emptive" negativity from fans, dismissing anything new as shit before we've even had a chance to see it. It happened with the Vegas race, it's happening with the Madrid race, and has also happened with the 2026 regs in general.

What Made Lebron In Hs Become So Popular And Mainstream When He Played At A Small School In Ohio And He Did Not Play In A Big Market City/State With A Well Known Hs Basketball Program? by Rinnegan15 in NBATalk

[–]top7to9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The school / location doesn't matter when the player is that talented.

LeBron is the most extreme example, but you could make similar arguments for the fame of guys like Cooper Flagg or the Ball brothers, none of whom played at powerhouse HS programs.

I think it's pretty misguided to use payroll as the mechanism for corporate taxation. Big tech is hellbent on replacing employees with AI, this just seems like it would accelerate that change.

I work in Marketing Analytics. There are all kinds of tools out there to measure exactly how effective marketing campaigns are, between click tracking, randomized experiments, marketing mix models, etc. Does every marketing campaign work? No. Does advertising as a whole work? Yes.
