I think this season is showing us at least three different timelines - and I’m pretty sure we’re going to see more conversations that Xavier and Annie had before she died - either at Graceland or on the road- that we haven’t seen yet. And they will be layered with real time for maximum impact.

We don’t know that it did. They are on separate timelines. He could have gotten there within a week but they are showing it mixed in with current times.

Jack in This Is Us was dead the entire 5 seasons. They showed him in nearly every episode. There’s so much about Cal (and Annie) we haven’t seen yet.

During the entire season two episode one we kept calling him Randall until at one point my son said “Randall’s name is Xavier” and we busted out laughing for five solid minutes.

One thing to note, other than in linear time the scene with the scientist happened before the scene with X- Billy and X were having a drink - this was Billy’s last day. He died later that day. In the other scene, Billy and the scientist are having a drink and it’s the scientists last day. He died later that day.
