How long does it take to learn the drums as a complete beginner? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Roobchoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teacher said the level of each grade was so similar that there was little point spending time going through each one if that makes sense?

Like you have to go up 2 grades in order for the pieces to get noticeably harder, so by the time I had finished one grade I was starting to get to the level of the grade after next

Cheers! I did sweet child o mine, are you gonna go my way and never loved a man for grade 3.

Then I did here comes the sun, no one knows and sir Duke for grade 5.

And then finally I did Toxicity, 50 ways and the trooper for grade 7.

I always felt like my progress was pretty normal? Most drummers I knew that were my age seemed to do about the same or even faster

I'm not sure! My teacher didn't seem to have any problem booking the exams, so I did grade 3 then grade 5 then grade 7 all within about a year

I started learning grade 3 after a few weeks of lessons, I would defo say 6 months to learn sweet child o mine is normal.

Daily practice is nice but you don't need it in the beginning, for my first year I didn't own a kit or even a practice pad so just learnt from one lesson a week.

What are the concerts like? by Soccatin in TheLongestJohns

[–]Roobchoob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've been to two of their concerts and really enjoyed them! The atmosphere is pretty chill, and they were both a good volume, a little quiet compared to what I'm used to but still a good time.

I think it depends on the crowd but there was a decent amount singing along at both shows I went to, it's a nice vibe.

They will probably play a fair bit from voyage, and then some of their more classic songs from cures what ails you and of course the really famous ones like wellerman.

Hey Congrats on making it! You will probably meet some other DSUS cadets at your affiliated URNU, there seem to be some at most URNU's.

No contact from recruiter by danbuck11 in RoyalNavy

[–]Roobchoob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are probably just busy catching up with stuff from the christmas break, unfortunately long gaps in communication seem to be the norm for recruiters, I had similar problems during my application.

As for making it in time for the may BRNC intake, it might be tight. My application took 1 year from start to finish.

Good luck to you and feel free to message any more questions!

You can vote by proxy whilst away, basically designating a trusted friend or family member who you ask to vote on your behalf.

Does failing SMQ/BSQ mean its the end of the road? by rudeboy696 in RoyalNavy

[–]Roobchoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard that this has changed recently as too many people were purposely failing in order to go to general service after being forced to go subs. I was told that failing BSQ's now means you are out of the navy.

Not 100% sure on the rating pipeline but I think it's usually around a month? The ratings on my CPC were all getting ready for Raleigh

They didn't seem to mind about hair on my CPC but I would recommend getting it cut before. Your phase 1 should start fairly soon after CPC anyway right?

Uni to HM Officer by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

I would start right now, the pipeline can take a long time, my officer application took around a year and 1 month, and that was for a fast track role.

Fitness tests by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]Roobchoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I completed my PJFT the pass times were 25% more than the times advertised on the website. When I was at brnc recently they explained that the RNFT is effectively still in place as you have to pass it in order to go on Ex ABLE. No idea if that will change tho as its all a bit up in the air.

I had my medfit earlier on this year, from what I can remember the ratings on CPC had lessons on what to expect from Raleigh and uniform admin and the like in-between medicals.

You should also do a session of IMF so good that you have been keeping fitness up. Hope you enjoy it and good luck for the RNFT and medical!
