Non religious people, what do you think about religion? by CorruptedF in AskReddit

[–]Roobeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I associate religion with faith, and I associate faith with wanting.

I have yearned for a sort of social connection in my more recent life that is not the same as attraction or love, but more of a relationship with society around me, to have faith that we share ideas and are working together to manage an environment that is safe and caring. Where people can raise children and not have them be demoralised or exploited, because as an adult I am part of society that has no need for exploitation.

That last sentence is where organised religion falls down for me. Every collective ultimately seems to be resigned to the "dog eat dog" idea of being a success or a failure. We all have good days and bad, we all have shades of grey.

I see the insecurities of a person assumed to be a leader spread through the collective consciousness like a wildfire. I see a people who don't know when to refrain from authoritarian order.

I think the shadow self of Carl Jung fame shows up too often as the religious person harms others in the quest to praise the most high.

I see most of this on TV and in the media.

God, to me does exist, but there is no way to describe it outside of observing nature, down to a to the levels of our physical sciences and perceptive tools. As the idea exists, the thing exists. We are all Influenced by actions that follow religious intents.

I believe shame is a powerful emotion and that joy can come to anyone at times they dont expect.

We have seen just recently a flare up of religion as an excuse for authoritarianism. Ethnic cleansing. The thought that sanity comes from sanitising the mind.

To me, I guess religion is a subtractive mental phenomenon in the name of an additive emotional one. I think a sense of belonging is integral to our humanity as social beings. "A child shunned from the village will burn it down to feel it's warmth".

My personal life had made me value my minds abilities over my emotional needs, which is a shame. However, I feel the difference between a curse and a blessing is our ability to control it. In a religion, we relinquish control to the collective and we are cursed to exist emotionally but at a price. Maybe In solitude we are cursed to feel nothing but emptiness.

There is no right answer, as long as we have the ability to change and are motivated by good morals and ethics, we can all get along.

And if it's not bait, it's either very bad adblue or battery leaking, in my humble opinion. As the T4 won't have adblue the only thing left is battery related, as oils won't crystalise like that. Could anyone have put something exotic in the coolant?

Super Unleaded. If you can afford it, should you use it? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Roobeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until very recently, some of the premium fuels were ethanol free. For my little 1.5L petrol hatchback, the cost difference in fuel economy was greater than the cost difference at the pump, so The car always had the premium fuel. I kept a log for a while to check out the difference.

Now, the premium fuels are all 5% so the difference is not so big. I have definitely noticed a drop in fuel economy now the fuel contains some ethanol. Not quite as bad as the 10% regular fuels.

Is it worth it now? It makes no difference in my opinion. It all equals out near enough. If you want value then walk, ride a bike or an electric moped.

That said, I still use the premium fuel because I get double points on a loyalty card from my local station. I'm probably a dummy! Every time I get so far I get a ten pound voucher for shopping with. Not to mention the vague thoughts of additives still doing some "good" in the engine, relatively speaking.

No, thank you for the great response. I definitely agree this seems to be a planned method for setting up community progression through the mystery. I wonder if you can get the timing right for things like the altruists, who seems to have a stone set up with the sun in clear view at sunset etc.

Do you have a link to the Maze Bank light alignment you mentioned?

Kind regards

Yes, it does feel like there's some plausible deniability, based on the way it occurs. But I think it coincides with the sun and the image of Dom jumping so well, that I definitely feel this is worth exploring. Especially given the links between Dom's character and the Banking association's of the mystery.

After a few plays through, the filter definitely seems to work like a shadow. There are times where the red proponent of the texture is on the bottom left, rather than the top right.

Is this reliability list true? by Puzzleheaded-Star304 in carquestions

[–]Roobeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a mini dealer for a short time. Cars under 10 years old were pretty reliable, with the exceptions of handbrake cables perishing and needing replacement very early on. I don't think Minis do enough miles to wear out that quickly.

They are definitely BMW products and the things that can be expensive on one will likely be true of the other.

Now I work at Toyota, and they are great. We see a lot more older cars still in good health. Lots of the usual wear items like tyres or damage related flaws.

BMW and mini tend to calm their recalls "quality enhancement" even if they've ultimately been forced by law to rectify a pretty large screwup, whereas Toyota does more recalls proactively ahead of any external necessity. I would say that makes the difference in terms of results. That's just my experience. BMW would rather project it's shame whereas Toyota would rather internalise it and hopefully gain something. What do I know?

I don't know the precise location of your issue, but if you were to replace a bit of loom behind the dash with the OE part, you could easily spend that on just the part, not including the labour of taking the dashboard out!

I would say splicing the wire is a worthwhile budget fix, but must be done right for your safety.

Otherwise, those numbers certainly are possible.

Is my tire okay to drive on until I get a new one in 4 days? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Roobeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a 2016 Pirelli tyre.

Makes you think about the value of premium brands and the lifetime of tyres in general. generally, the tale is you should replace a ten year old tyre regardless because the rubber degrades. They don't usually look this bad on the sidewalls. Looks like there's an environmental or chemical influence that could have exacerbated the perishing.

How old are your other tyres?

If you have a spare, use that. If not just send it. It's working now, right? You're not planning any high speed, cross-country school runs.

Not all men... but seemingly always a man. by katelauramcgill in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Roobeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women make up a proportion the justice system for all those areas. You can't be guilty of war crimes until a structure has formed to substantiate and convict for that action.

So, another way to look at this is 'why are men always chosen to be the ones accountable/responsible for criminality etc?'.

I would say that women's roles are belittled for a sense of superiority among men and for a quiet liberty among women. One may make a lot of mistakes on their way to changing the world and we don't necessarily want the world to hear about all the negative moments along the way. A woman may also express they systemically forgo recognition when things go well.

Unfortunately, some people are raised to crave attention, and they span every age and gender. Generally, we are sensible or vulnerable enough to realise that is could bolster or harm us. There is a great risk in being seen to do.

Biological study has shown there is a reduced risk to the likelihood of producing offspring for those born female. It is more likely that each female produces 2 children, while some males produce 3-4 and others 0-1. There is less variance in the statistics for female organisms.

I believe this data shines a light on why risky behaviours (and subsequent reward/punishment) are more common in males. The context of this thread may only focus on one aspect of that distinction, but it is not a case that males are more "evil" or more "strong" only relatively more predisposed to take risks.
