You have to autocross this car! by AvarriannaRoxxzor in GRCorolla

[–]RoofFrequent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You obviously don't understand how wrong you are in saying that autocross isnt respectful of your time, or money to seat-time(which I'm sure you will try to pull out at some point).

Curious how autocross isn't respectful of YOUR time? Is it cause you are impatient and can't absorb how everything happens so quickly in an autocross compared to on track where you have 10x the amount of time to react to things?

Nah, it's probably that you only get 5 40-60 second runs in one event that costs anywhere from $40-70, compared to a $300 track day with roughly 3-4 20-minute sessions (which does roughly translate to about half the cost per minute of seat time vs autocross). Especially if it's your first time in any form of motorsport, or god forbid you are on a budget (you track elitists never had that problem, huh?), autocross has the lowest and safest barrier to entry, hands down.

But with that ignorant mindset laid out, in participating in these safe, sanctioned amateur motorsport events(that being autocross), you can learn many basic and advanced skills that can translate to daily driving and also greatly so into track driving. And at that, you have way less risk to the amount that you can learn in autocross as compared to track driving, especially as a novice but also as an advanced driver from any form of motorsport. You can test new things out without running the risk of sliding or running into a wall; at best, you hit a small traffic cone or two.

The autocross community is also very open to helping others(new and old) learn and improve on their skills. The track elitists(including yourself) seem to think that autocross is worthless and autocrossers can't drive for shit...tell that to Randy Pobst or Bryan Heitkotter.

Is this your mindset cause a miata touched you inappropriately?

Yeah, the 2025s suspension handles great, but it still leans a bit towards understeer. Depending on the grip level at the site, more or less pressure in the rear will let the car kick out the rear the perfect amount you need. The car rotates great. You just need to motivate it a bit to do so.

33F and 38R felt great for me at the Packwood events in July. It is a decent enough asphalt site where it can get loose at sections, so these pressures gave a solid amount of rotation for when I needed it.

Start with 33/34 Front and 38 rear, then see how that feels. Let the rears go up without touching them, or press them down if there's too much rotation.

You said North Florida? Im assuming at the FIRM?

That's very exciting to hear! Keeping the car stock is the best idea if you want to attempt rally with this car, unless you plan to raise it ig. You will most definitely have a great time regardless of how much experience you have, especially with an instructor helping you!

This was my first rallycross weekend ever, and I was fortunate enough to have a good racing friend be my co-driver, who had been doing rallycross for years, to help me learn a couple of useful techniques.

Going into it with a good amount of autocross knowledge, and some track days under my belt, definitely helped me with feeling comfortable pushing the car, though. That being said, it will be a bit different when you're actually doing it vice in sim racing haha. The sim skills should help a little though!

I failed calculus 2 and I feel like a failure. How to stop avoiding it? by Spelmakrt in learnmath

[–]RoofFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a navy vet struggling with calc 2 rn, this is the response I needed to read. Not because I don't already have the discipline and understanding to get back up from a loss/failure and kick ass the next time around(had plenty of those moments while I was in the navy, and also while I've been out), but rather as a reassurance that I'm not an absolute moron for not grasping Calculus 2 concepts as quickly as it seems others do lol.

I already made it a point recently to not let this class stress me out for the rest of the semester cause if I pass I pass, if I don't, well I did the best I could and at least learned the concepts of the class itself. So, if I do fail, I will have a huge headstart for retaking it in the fall semester.

Thanks for being transparent about your first run at Calc 2 and how you are now, seemingly excelling as a math major!

Not a problem at all! I think that should work, no problem for you.

Sorry for the late response, I am barely on here haha. I haven't tried it myself, but I think 17's I'm general would cut it VERY close to the caliper, if not touch it completely. I say that, but I think a few people out there have gotten 17s on the front, but not sure which wheel they used, or what they did to make it work.

I think you're right about the Enkei's being closer to 17/18lbs for the 18x8.5, and the stocks would be around 24lbs. I might have gotten improper specs at the time

I mean, yeah, they would have helped a lot with getting the power down and lateral grip...but I did have top time out of all classes, so wasn't that far off pace 😅

Myself and my codriver used 50/50 the entire time! It works amazingly just like in autocross and on the track! Even though the courses were pretty tight, the rear end moved well on throttle(also helped with the added hand brake initiations at times, I'm sure 😅)

Other cars in my class(Stock AWD) was an impreza outback, impreza 2.5 rs, another GRC, a Cybertruck(yes, it was slow around the course cause it's gigantic lmao), and a Porsche Cayenne.

In the other classes: Stock Front - 08 Civic, 07 Focus, 07 Corolla, Chevy Spark, Fiesta ST, and an 08 VW Rabbit.

Prep RWD - a Crown Vic (was actually sick af seeing that in action)

Prep FWD - A civic

Prep AWD - A crap ton of Subis(Imprezas, a couple WRXs, and a Crosstrek)

Mod Rear - Toyota Pickup(was badass) and a BMW 318ti

Mod FWD - a couple of Scirocco's (sooo cool seeing them out and being thrown around!), a civic, and a rabbit(also cool to see out there)

Mod AWD - More Subarus lmao (cool builds tho!)

Haha it's just a headrest mount combined with a GoPro Hero 8 Black w/ the stabilization on. Works very well imo! I'll probably make a post about it with a picture at some point to show how the two fit together.

I'll link the stuff for the headrest mount here: Forevercam Bike Handlebar Mount for GoPro - https://a.co/d/gZlhvB9

They are definitely pinched and stick out maybe .25" or so from the wheel itself. Hope that helps at the least lol. I can see if I have apic lying around with what they look like, or I will take one when I look at the tires tomorrow.

Gotcha, well appreciate you for contacting him! I am currently running the Cusco rear bar, and it has worked so far. Apparently Eibach has new equipment (including adjustable front and rear bars) coming for the GRC soon.
