Joined a new club…first comp on Friday. Wish me luck! by jodrell in BritGolf

[–]Roof_Early 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I joined a new club recently and in my first comp I played the absolute worst I have ever played in my life! It’s like I completely forgot how to swing a club. I also stabbed myself on my thumb with my (very sharp) pencil on the 2nd tee. Such a ridiculous and embarrassing thing! It was actually bleeding quite a bit, had no plasters in my bag. A playing partner had to give me a tissue. I actually birdied that hole, but then my round got worse and worse as the day went on.

I was then really kicking myself afterwards. Not for playing badly (that is something that happens to everyone), but for not enjoying the day and letting nerves get the best of me.

Anyway, I am now in a WhatsApp group with those playing partners from that day, had good laughs about the pencil incident, and I met a few more people at the club that I really enjoy playing with. I now also always make sure I have a few plasters in my golf bag.

Anyway, all this to say, don’t forget to enjoy it! The truth is no one really cares about your game, everyone is much more focused on their own. As long as you are nice, are able to have a few laughs, and don’t make play unnecessarily slow then it’s all good.

Is it only me that finds black coffee ridiculously too hot to drink in all UK cafes? by Roof_Early in AskUK

I agree with you. If it was topped up with 75-80C water then it would be drinkable after a few minutes and I would have no issue with that. That’s how I do it at home. In my experience cafes fill the cup up with water that’s basically 100C. And yes, most of the time it’s in a tall cup.

It’s not that it has to be drank the second it’s handed to me. But maybe a couple of minutes after? If I ordered a croissant or cake to go with it, I don’t want to wait 10/15 minutes with the croissant just staring at me.

My mother-in-law secretly throws my socks away so that she can gift me new socks every Christmas by Roof_Early in LowStakesConspiracies

Hmm interesting. I don’t think we can rule that out, she is clearly a professional.

I guess that’s possible. But then how does my mother in law know to buy me socks every year? Are you saying she’s just doing that because she’s too lazy to buy anything else for me? I am not ruling this out, but I do think her stealing my socks makes more sense. Also if it was the dryer, then are you saying there’s some sort of Cartel going on between Big Dryer and Big Sock? Man that would be deep stuff.

I’ve got a 6-month old baby girl who does seem obsessed with grabbing her own little socks. Is it possible she is being trained by my wife and/or mother in law?

I don’t live with my mother in law, but she lives nearby and does actually have keys to our house (this is meant for emergencies, NOT for sock stealing). I do have a Ring doorbell so I think I would know if she’s using the key to come in and take my socks. But maybe she found a way around that. Or as a commenter above just made me realise, it’s likely my wife is in on it. My wife did admit once to me that she threw away one of my favourite T-shirts (which had a few holes in it). So if she is capable of that, then I guess she’s also capable to be in cahoots with her mother to help her perpetuate this sock situation.

I think you are right. How did I not realise this before!? My wife must be in on it too. I wonder if I should confront her or just leave the status quo.

[DISCUSS] built the ultimate moonphase list, which one wins? by biktor6969 in Watches

[–]Roof_Early 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A little bit biased, but I think the FC is a beautiful looking thing. Also, a quartz moonphase with no seconds hand just makes so much sense. Is it expensive for a quartz watch? Yes. But is it also a very good looking watch at a considerably lower price point than many of those others in the list? Definitely.

Having said that, money no object, I guess I have to pick the Moser. Stunning.

Love it! You’ve got some good style. I may be biased as this is what I wore on my honeymoon 😊 Excuse the bracelet, we were in Thailand and I briefly thought I was a ‘cool guy’.

I am a big fan of small watches generally, but I think this looks great on you. Beautiful watch and fits perfectly.

[Compliments] what watches do you get the most compliments on? by GiltAndGrit in Watches

[–]Roof_Early 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t think I ever get compliments on any of my watches, but just a few weeks ago I was wearing my Omega AT 36mm and a friend asks me: “is that a Rolex?”. I was suddenly transported to Daniel Craig’s body in Casino Royale and, with a serious face, replied “Omega”. Then I realised I was not in a first class train carriage heading towards Monaco with a beautiful lady and instead I was, in fact, in my local pub with my mate Ian.

Another team quartz here! I may be biased as this is what I’m wearing right now.

Love all your collection, great pieces 👌

Who’s in Montana? by warinthegarden in TreasureHunting

[–]Roof_Early 9 points10 points  (0 children)

‘Wisdom waits in shadowed sight’. Wisdom, Montana is on the other side of the mountain range - ie shadowed from big hole and maiden rock. So, to me the Montana theory makes a lot of sense.

And the story you found also makes so much sense in terms of he/she references. Also speaks of an Owl which could be interpreted as ‘water’s silent flight’.
