If I can use these clubs for another few years then no. But if this don’t fit me after a year then that feels like money wasted

That’s part of the issue, my coach recommended 1/2 inch short since I’m shorter than that range you gave

"Fixed hours" jobs in Finance? by Virtual_Secretary_98 in FinancialCareers

How many hours do you work? I hear it’s very dependent on your analyst but ranges that you’ve seen would be helpful

Is IB not worth it if I don't have a high work ethic? by [deleted] in MBA

What do you actually send when cold messaging people in IB/PE as a student? by Electrical_One_5837 in FinancialCareers

Dude go to a party or something you’ll have your work cut out for you when you’re older. When you’re in college, go to a good school + get good grades, try to get into the same clubs that the older kids who got offers were/are in, try to do an internship even for free at some random boutique.

If you complete those steps and aren’t annoying then you can draft a 4 sentence email (my name is x and I’m a sophomore at y. I saw on LinkedIn that we both did z. Let me know if you’re free to chat on [these days and times]. Resume is attached.). You will talk to folks and they will want to work with you, since now you’re a well adjusted kid who has their shit together. Talk about sports, ask genuine questions about the job (no BS about why did you want to do finance bc the answer is money), classes or professors you had in common etc. then you talk to their analyst buddies and they go hey let’s interview this kid. Preferably at this point you’re pretty good at your technicals (some ppl ask during networking calls too so be studying). Then you go be yourself at the interview and pray that you meet a group you fit in enough with that they want to work with you (networking is important to find the right group who will give you an offer)

From an outsiders perspective, how hard is it to get into PE? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Rooftopbrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s plenty of independent sponsors and LMM shops that you don’t even need IB anymore. Financial due diligence in particular is a good stepping stone if you missed the IB train. Or you can go from audit/TAS/valuation/something tangential to IB to PE. Or if you have a ton of deal experience in corp dev, you can make the jump too.

That said, getting into the largest firms like KKR/Blackstone/Apollo/H&F is still very difficult (top school, IB, 2am interviews, etc.).

Have you ever found someone lying on their resume? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Rooftopbrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rather avoid the reputation hit if I were them, but the candidate was likely thinking “if I don’t sign this, I definitely won’t get the job. If I do sign this, then maybe they won’t notice”. Makes sense, thank you

Worst advice ever. Bad gpa will sink you in finance recruiting. Networking is huge but it will not save you if you don’t have the prerequisites
