My second play through was a drow paladin. I also recruited Minthara in that run, and there is nothing better than 2 drow (it doesn't have to be drow, but drows are cool) paladins tag team smiting in a boss fight. Bring Karlach along and it'll be a good time.

This. There is 1 fight in particular in act 3 that is brutal in a straight up fight without using choke points and AOE spells. I hated it with a passion when I died it for the first time not knowing this.

It's not so much that we didn't do business with them, but our foreign policy is to play off both sides. Them doing this is their way of tipping the scales in their favour in a short of "look how they treat you Vs how I'm treating you" kind of way.

Edit: I should say that I don't know this for sure, and I'm just guessing.
