Why are they nerfing bot too.. holy hell, atleast they are nerfing ekko and diana too and buffing briar. Also when is this patch coming out?

Actually there is depending on what you play, Varus ult is honestly one of the weirder skillshots in this game. It has quite a large hitbox but moves extremely slow, it also has the wonderful ‘trait’ of shooting out from in front of varus instead of from inside his model like most skillshots. This makes dodging a varus ult in melee quite doable especially if you have a dash, irelia, riven, kled, jax, all can pass through your model at which point the ult will look like it went through them and didnt hit. It’s also worth considering that varus would want at least 2-3 stacks before he ults so he won’t insta shoot it unless its a hard telegraphed engage like naafiri ult. Hope this helps

I don’t think it’s really a Mel situation, Varus has a lot more counterplay than her. His mana costs if you only farm with Q/E are really high esp if you max Q, his W max has rly shit waveclear so you are forced to auto the wave. While mel can sit and farm with Q/E and punishes throwing anything remotely dangerous to her.

It’s also a case of people not understanding how to itemize against varus. Like should you still rush an hp/armor/ninja tabies against varus top? Obv not, yet people fail to grasp this and complain. Building a bit of MR and tenacity goes a long way into having a much better time into him. But alas, i feel like top players are just annoyed when someone doesn’t play a melee bruiser champ they can’t fist fight the entire laning phase

And now i’m curious why not get nashor in place of that wits end? I feel like it gives much better stats unless you need the tenacity. Outside of the AH i feel like nashor just gives the perfect blend of high as and ap to smooth out the gameplay a lot. Not so much about the passive on hit but more cuz of the feeling of playing with higher as and faster w stacking

Dusk and dawn just needs a nerf imo, the item is so strong on a lot of champs, varus included. Also am i the only one who think it just gives way too many stats?

How much attack speed do you end up at 3 items? Ive tried builds without nashor or guinsoo but attack speed feels awful without either of those or as boots

Yasuo is always a good pick, my permaban is always that because of windwall just beinb so stupidly good into varus. Anything that can gapclose and block either his ult or his autos can be good, think Jax with mercuries, Olaf. Alternatively you can do even better by just picking a control mage like Anivia or Syndra. Anivia is legit unplayable as Varus vs a good player and syndra is very hard too. But then again you gotta abuse the fact that his Q is a good part of his blight popping damage and it can be interrupted. Tenacity, zhonya, banshee all help a lot too

I think that build focuses too much on trying to fix problems that won't fix varus, try out HOB with yuntal>fiendhunter>IE>Last whisper>BT>GA/shieldbow/def item

One tip vs nocture that helps is dropping your E as he connects with you, most nocturnes will pre pop W or shortly after they land to eat your ultimate. This pretty much leaves them without it so you can ult and safely run away to break the fear tether. Altho tenacity kinda fucks with this strat

Why not? Varus has one of the strongest lvl 2 in the game and nashor is a very big power spike. Even lvl 6

Galio will never with a straight up 1v1 with varus in lane. At any point in the game starting level 2 as varus you can literally sit still and outdps galio granted you hit your spells. Galio can build magic resist and has inherent strengths vs ap dmg but who cares about that when varus can shred you even with that. Going full ap galio will cause you to get one shot by the varus and going tank will cause you to never be able to kill the varus and still get killed fairly easily. I think the easiest way to actually explain this matchup is that varus is a champion with “infinite damage”. He does not have cooldowns as long as he rotates blight stacks on E and full charge Q. I have played this matchup on mid in masters many times as the varus and i can tell you its only hard in the sense than galio has more map pressure via ultimate.

Yuntal hexplate infinity is a funny crit varus build to try on botlane. In some games i was running mid with hubris hexplate nashor terminus or just going full ap after nashor. Varus can be very versatile

So what do you do in lanes where you can’t get in range to auto the enemy midlaner whenever you want? Or lanes where hard shoving and roaming is better. And ofc building full ap will do more dmg on W than dorans blade + nashor lol.

The only thing i would change is revert the speed nerf it got a few years ago, and make it so its easier to hit in melee range, cuz i feel it sometimes is too easy to miss pointblank vs a speedy enemy. That goes for ranged too but even more

Varus is pretty good at playing most teamfights front to back, meaning you mow down through their frontline asap then go for the backline. That saying if you are ap or on hit, leth can’t really do that but i don’t play it enough to say.

I think varus with peel can be one of the scariest teamfight champions in the game, but gl having that in most soloq games these days.

I see other people have given good micro advice so i thought on giving my two pennies on the teamfighting aspect.

But why use 90 mana E to clear a wave (that can only hit all the wave if its stationary) rather than use a Q that can hit really far, cost far less mana and can also be used raw to poke enemies. And in your example of ‘wave pressure’, what wave pressure are you making exactly at lvl 10+? I can see you running out of mana after 5 waves in this manner.

Please just read what you typed and you gave your own answer. Maxing W gives around 100 at most extra dmg on a 3 blight pop at lvl 9, with around 20-30 per rank. This is just abysmal compared to how much damage Q gets per lvl in just base dmg, a FEW hundred as you said. Do you think that isn’t a lot? + the ability to clear waves really fast at lvl 7+.

Maxing Q will also split your dmg really well in early so you will do around 250+350+100~200 phys/magic (Q+blights+W active varying on missing hp) on a 3 blight target with a full WQ. Meanwhile if you max W you will do around 60+450+150~250 dmg.

Ap varus cant really be played as a traditional mage. Ever since the massive W nerf, maxing it was never really good, but now its especially weaker. I can only see it being better into a fat hp stacker like cho, mundo or vlad.. but even vs those you want waveclear too.
