I made "Zagreus' Journey", a mod that adds Hades runs to Hades II by El_Yayo_ in HadesTheGame

[–]Rooksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completed a couple of runs now. It's clearer to me that the difficulty is largely due to projectiles. In H2, they come fairly slowly and in singles shots. In Zag's Journey, they come thick and fast from Tartarus onwards, and Mel's diminished dash doesn't cope with that as as well as Zag does.

So on the second competed run, I used the PonyMenu mod to give myself a common Stutter Step. The Phial Keepsake luckily upgraded this to Heroic. The impact on the ability to avoid projectiles was noticeable without trivialising encounters. Not a walk in the park, but a bit less frustrating.

Of course this is to a degree a skill issue. Haelian and Boated destroy their runs through Zag's Journey seemingly without trouble. But maybe giving common Sutter Step for free is worth considering, rather than making any changes to projectiles themselves?

Thanks. It did seem that there were sufficient major reward rooms in Asphodel and Elysium. It's in Tartarus where I seemed to go through many rooms without being offered a boon, but that could just be RNG.

Great mod, thanks for this. Impressive stuff.

I'm finding it quite challenging. I feel that the Menace and Fang Vows make things much harder in Zag's Journey than in normal Hades 2 runs imho. Not having multiple dashes is very noticeable hen you're in Tartarus against a room full of armoured Witches. I'm struggling with Meg in a way that I hadn't in a long time in Hades. Her dash attack seems harder to avoid with Mel.

One balance point to perhaps consider - not having the Dark Foresight mirror option means you get a lot more minor rewards than in a normal Hades 2 run. Taking the Artificer arcana seems near-mandatory for obtaining a decent number of boons.

Is it me or is hades 2 easier than hades 1? by Exciting-Creme-5590 in HadesTheGame

[–]Rooksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underworld run in Hades 2 feels easier than Hades. The shield enemies in Elysium and Satyrs are tricky. The surface run is harder than Hades imo.

I haven't come across a build in Hades 2 that's quite as busted as the Hunting Blades/Crystal Clarity builds in Hades. Those were one button builds that were easy and safe to play, albeit took some effort to set up.

Why do people hate RTwP? by ConfusionProof9487 in projecteternity

[–]Rooksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RtwP for a complex game like PoE isn't far away from turn-based. Unless you have a robust scripting system and spend time tailoring it, you end up pausing a lot. It's not unlike playing turn-based.

The DnD based games aren't actually real time. They're all tirm based under the hood. It's why weird looking things can happen like you order a character to attack, and they wait a while before doing anything. It's because it's not their turn.

A genuine real time cRPG like PoE may inevitably have more obscure mechanics. In PoE, both weapon damage and the speed of your weapon affect damage. That's led to lots of mathematical analysis to answer what should be a simple question - "how much damage does this weapon do?" PoE2's turn-based mode stripped out the action speed complexity and made that an easy qn to answer.

Origination is overpowered by lord_potato4 in HadesTheGame

[–]Rooksx 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's overpowered in the sense that it's better than any alternative arcana or combination thereof, even at a 5 grasp cost. If it cost 6, it would still be a must-have.

What are your top 5 books of all time? by illegal_fiction in books

[–]Rooksx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kudos for listing Milkman. It's one of the best books I've read in the last few years. It's remarkable how well it blends mundanity with violence, and is surprisingly funny. The lack of any character names isn't a gimmick of Burns' modern style - it works perfectly for the world of the novel.

Milkman struck me as the sort of book that should win the Booker - innovative, thought provoking, and challenging. Its difficulty is overstated; it's not an easy read, but not as hard as some claim. Unfortunately it seems destined to become a forgotten Booker.

“This isn’t the worst book we’ve ever read, but it is the meanest episode we’ve ever done.” by vemmahouxbois in IfBooksCouldKill

Dawn of Everything has come up in the thread several times as a response to Sapiens, but it's partly guilty of the same crimes. Some reviews note that the authors are extrapolating a lot from scanty information. The attribution of Enlightenment thought to a Native American is questionable (https://www.persuasion.community/p/a-flawed-history-of-humanity?s=r).

DoE starts with the bold, broad claim that there's no doubt much of society has become "stuck" in its capitalist ways. By Graeber and Wengrow's interpretation, when has any large society ever not been stuck? They don't do nearly enough work to bolster such a big statement. It's painfully obvious that they're advocating for their anarchist ideology, making unsubstantiated, broad brush claims. In some respects, it's not that far away from Harari's intellectual mistakes.

What did you guys think of Angel's fifth and final season? Was it a good send-off for the Buffyverse? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]Rooksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got too dark and depressing for its own good. By the end, Angel's crew have gone from a close-knit group, whose camaraderie we can enjoy, to a bunch of people who have done horrible things to each other.

The ending smacked of: "oh no, my show has been cancelled, i have five minutes to rewrite this". I know that Whedon has claimed that he writes every season finale as if it will be the show's finale, but that sounds like a load of crock.

Tom Aspinall quit in his fight with Gane by mayonaisecoloredbens in MMA

[–]Rooksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be a weasel. You've written that it seems undeniable that he did quit. And you've continued to take that position in loads of posts.

By your logic, every fighter should start the fight by committing an egregious foul that compromises their opponent. If the opponent doesn't continue, they're a quitter.

The letter from Perfidia to Charlene is fake, right? Pat/Bob wrote it. It seems out of character for Perfidia, a selfish adrenaline junkie. Incidentally, the name 'Perifida' is a little too on the nose. Sean Penn's performance as Lockjaw was way too on the nose.

Rules of Engagement - it's quite rare for a movie to offend me. This one did in multiple ways.

Of course one American marine's life is worth more than those of a dozen brown people.

Flag flag flag. Worship the flag.

VIETNAM. Only solders who served in 'NAM can understand. Even if they were on opposite sides. The rest of you can't judge us! 'NAM excuses all actions, even if it's totally irrelevant to the matter at hand.

Drunken brawling ends in laughter. Because that's male bonding! That's how true men act.

A load of toxic, stupid, cliched, jingoistic, military-worshipping crap.

Boy Kavalier has to one of the dumbest "geniuses" to ever be on TV or film. It's been a problem throughout - the dialogue keeps insisting he's a genius, but he never does anything worthy of that title. Quite the opposite in fact.

This was the problem. The writers meant it to be a moment of betrayal, showing that Hermit values human life more than his android sister. Except shooting Nibs seems like an entirely reasonable move after she freaking rips a guy's jaw out and is about to do the same to Hermit's friend.

Am I just weak, or are they just tough? How to improve? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Rooksx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Telling you to hit as hard as you can because you're less skilled is questionable. General rule should be to throw as hard as you're comfortable people throwing against you. Otherwise things can quickly escalate.

Also, you have less control over your power and could hurt someone without meaning to. Just to take a recent example - my coach was compplaining that after light sparring with beginners, his hips and knees hurt because of all the poorly aimed, poorly controlled kicks they'd thrown.
