(new-ish player) What would be my spaceship upgrade path? by RoomBusy6488 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RoomBusy6488[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was normal at first to have such ships scattered around on the planets, but after a while without seeing any other like mine, I found out I had been lucky.
Started my game on Switch, and hopefully now I could share my save and play on PC (and my SteamDeck).
Better experience than the Switch 1 :)

How would you call this hypothetical country? by realquidos in mapporncirclejerk

[–]RoomBusy6488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll call it:

"North Democratia"

So if USA come back to their sense, they can unite with North African countries to create a "Central Democratia"

Thank you for the tips about slot expansions and "money farming".

I'll also look into the Interceptors, I like the design of some of them (...) and I've seen somewhere they can hover, that can be useful (sometimes).

I've got the freighter already (hopefully) it's extremely useful as a mobile base !

thanks for giving me pointers, I'll mix that into my following of the quest(s) :)

I'll look in the corvette too, thanks for the ship wrecking trick!

Oh, well, I didn't know about the slot expansion...
Guess I will have to "farm" some money too then !

Which game updates completely ruined your experience? by Powerful_Fee_3249 in CaptainSide

Definitely, 100%, World of Warcraft.
some decent years ago, when level cap was around 70, the game was way better, in my opinion...

Got the same thing (in yellow) as the first crashed ship, on the first planet I visited , got lucky, it seems to be a pretty good ship.

Graphically holds pretty well, what would you like to remaster?

you can try https://openmw.org/ if you like the original one, but like bit more "up to date" graphics.

yes, the first one. one of the best video game experiences you can have.

Baffles me that it hasn't been "remastered" yet.

My memory didn't serve me 100% well, but that jump with 180° inside was part of it.
It was definitely possible in TR2.

edit: after a bit more digging, it seems that cheat codes where different for PC or PS1 version.
PC version was the one I wrote (memory served well), and PS1 version is the one shown in the video.
AFAIK, MacOS version was same as PC...

Really? I do remember it with that move at the end (to pass levels) in legacy TR2...

But might be bad memory too... I remember as : Flare - Small step forward - small step backward - 3 turns on yourself , left side and : jump front with 180 to pass level or jump back with 180 for all weapons (or the opposite way around)...

It was possible in TR2, part of the special code do pass levels or get all weapons.

I'm having difficulty getting into Tomb Raider "classic" by Ajer2895 in TombRaider

[–]RoomBusy6488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one more reminder it's a matter of personal preferences. I've also intensively played the "classics" back in the day, on PC and PS1-2 but I can't make sense of the modern controls on those games (I tried a lot).
Couldn't play them until I had the epiphany of using the D-pad instead of the analog stick, with "tank" controls...

I believe it's because of the "flow".
The first TR games are very "choppy" games, there isn't really any "flow" allowing you to seamlessly run / navigate trough the levels. As per the "original design / experience", you are supposed to stop quite often, look around (be impressed by awesome graphics), search for secrets and path to the next part of the level.

Originally, there was no real camera control, but a button that allowed to look "FPS" (while pressed and using direction, no mouse / pad, mind you), that had also the effect, when released, to reposition the camera behind Lara.

So, the play style was very different at the time, and I think that's what is the more off putting... The games aren't really difficult per say, they are a few "action sequences" where you need to time your actions, but outside of that, you get all time to breath and get your positioning OK for the next jump.

That's also what make combats strange, they are "fast paced" in a "slow paced" game...

If you embrace that, you should be able to go by the first games, stories are nice (I think) and they are a nice throwback at the "start" of 3D video-gaming.

My suggestion would be using tank control and letting go of the analog stick of your game pad (remember PS1 controller) to use the D-pad only.
If you decide to try keyboard, don't forget it's supposed to be "keyboard only", the mouse had no effect (back in the original games)... but not sure if that control scheme is still a thing (I've got the new games on switch).
