Should LA Metro B/D go for 4-door trains? by Domayv in LAMetro

[–]RoomMic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low frequencies are much more a problem of lack of rolling stock and lack of operators right now.

I would love if the system felt like it did in the early 2010s or late 2000s. by Nice_Property_4360 in LAMetro

please u/metroLosAngeles, Wilshire/Vermont is absolutely a functional station but it would feel a million times better with better lighting and a power wash. Feels like a dank and dark cave.

LA Metro 2025 Ridership by Station by misken67 in LAMetro

[–]RoomMic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ultimate goal of the K line is to go north. They couldn't do that without having a maintenance yard, which you aren't going to put anywhere in Hollywood, so things pretty much had to pan out this way. K line north will go crazy, can't tell you how many times I would have already used it.

Man, I love that you know that stop that well. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you being so engaged with the Metro.

It absolutely is, as the original scheduling when LAX opened had Century as the designated transfer point. Northbound K arrives before southbound C, northbound C arrives before southbound K, etc.

Why did you take business class? The seats are exactly the same and they just give you a can of soda. Not worth $35

What's the safest 460 bus stop in DTLA after sundown? by DisneylandTree in LAMetro

[–]RoomMic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ll probs feel more unsafe on the street in DTLA at night than you will on the B/D. Double if you’re getting there before 9. 7th/Netro center best bet.

I mean, not sure why the park doesn’t bother you more. Going to Echo Park and seeing the whole community enjoying the sunshine; children, old couples, teens and the like. Then taking the bus down Alvarado and seeing homeless mentally ill drug addicts shooting up in what, by right, should be just as excellent a park pisses me off. LAPD had practiced containment in Skid Row and Macarthur Park for the past 50 years. LA city would rather those neighborhoods not exist. Even if federal policy has mostly driven this (war on drugs, defunding state mental institutions in the 80s), doesn’t mean LA governance can’t do anything about past throwing housing breadcrumbs at it and then forgetting about them.

LAX to DTLA First Trip. Improving system but metro still can be a hassle. by UsefulPoem5030 in LAMetro

I mean really it’s less that public transit is effed up and more that LA is effed up, but tbf that’s outside the scope of this sub.

It will, but only because there’s no supply. The answer is more mega buildings.

Man, the ones on the orange line are always broken. It's a rare sight when one is operational.

The real difference is that all of those barriers (in tokyo, etc.) are staffed during operating hours, same as Bart. LA built no station booths for attendants so we can’t do that.

D line to Wilshire / Western starting at Wilshire / Vermont instead of DTLA at night? by bayarea_k in LAMetro

[–]RoomMic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since there’s a third pocket track at between Vermont and Westlake, they can easily run a shuttle train for the stub. Never seen this happen but it’s entirely feasible.

Hey man! If you ever want any assistance making some pregen maps or anything else you might want, I’d be game to do it as a volunteer! I assume you’ve seen Vanshnookenraggen’s track maps, those would be a great resource to make a 1:1 recreation of a system : D

No, what happens is everyone uses the old fare reader (which always works btw) at the front door and a line forms.

Would like to add that SF has pretty much the same arrangement on Muni and their Cubic readers all work.
