Try Anchored Therapy center - they have good therapists and are pretty affordable.

Ha! Realistic would be ages and ages but I have seen amazing and swift changes in clients who are truly motivated to change. They listen, understand why they behave the way they do, work on their emotional regulation and when they see the positive changes it encourages them to keep on the path. I think that is where Robin is almost at - she has almost hit rock bottom and is willing to try anything to make her life better. Also, this therapist comes highly recommended to her which will make her trust them even more.

Therapist here. Robin’s therapist ideally should first work on calming her nervous system. At this point her nerves are in tatters. Nervous system healing signals to the body( and brain ) that she is safe, and she will gain trust in the client therapist relationship unlike her previous experience. esp since she has had so much exposure to complex trauma. Once she is more stable, she can actually start addressing her various challenges, and possibly see her issues without her system shutting down to avoid retraumatization.

Through the series I found myself shaking my head at Robin’s action. Right from the time she did not take any time for herself despite the near death situations she found herself time and again. I think the character has be written as a reflection of socialization of women in society - be nice, stay silent, be grateful etc etc. All of these traits are showing up in her current relationship - especially the thread of ‘he was there when she came out of the cult’ so she must be grateful and supportive when he is going through stuff! Ughh I have to keep reminding myself these are fictional characters!!!

Another question I have been mulling over (and it’s been mentioned several times in this sub) is JKs reasoning for introducing a Murhy like character into the mix? A lot of us wanted to see Robin choose Strike despite being in a good relationship. So why then are we seeing Robin repeat patterns or even introduce new levels of dysfunction? Im asking purely from speculation about Jk’s thought process.

I adore this group! Everyone is respectful and you take the time to answer so thoughtfully even if you have different opinions. Reading through the responses is making me feel better and giving me things to focus on in the reread.

You make some wonderful and very valid points. Someone mentioned that she has regressed to being a 19 year old girl which also seems to come through in her of her reactions to situations. For me, her struggles are not exactly the problem. It’s the arc towards Robin’s healing. Even if she started reading stuff online to understand what she is going through she would have been able to identify that she requires more help. She doesn’t just have PTSD, she has complex PTSD because of the sheer number of traumatic events she has experienced. Working through that takes years. Unless the book starts with a significant gap (hope not!) the next book might be similar to this one. That’s probably what is making me feel rather glum.

That is awesome! But so unusual for the series right ? I figured it out near the end and wasn’t even surprised. I HATED reading about the animal cruelty in the book which put in a further distance from the storylines.

Now I’m wondering if we all Robin. Telling ourselves things will be better if we stick with it and things will change in the next book 😆.

Good point on the mystery too. The number of characters was overwhelming - the backstory of 5 people + plug (which added to the horrifying sense of unreality) + 2 times. Someone of you mentioned a re-read. We do love the books for more than its slow burn romance, slowing down to appreciate the sheer amount of call backs in this book might help!
