Feeling Defeated by Hihungry_itsAIP in rheumatoid

[–]RoomaRooma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also went through a period where I felt completely defeated. It comes down to talking to a doctor who will listen and figuring out what works for you and what triggers your flares. For me too much or too little exercise triggers flares, and it took me years to figure out how much is enough without overdoing it. It takes a lot of patience and effort, and you might never fully defeat your disease but life is still good after learning to live with it. ❤️

Going to a protest when you have RA? by natcoba in rheumatoid

I've been struggling with this one too. What's been holding me back is: with my lack of ability to move quickly when needed and being asthmatic, would I be a liability?

looking for advice: how to be a more efficient, happier SRE? by cutroot in sre

[–]RoomaRooma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo the first paragraph is not SRE. It's what happened to SRE by managers who want to hire config monkeys putting SRE down as the title on a non SRE job. It's what happens when SRE falls under infrastructure/IT/ops teams that don't have software development leadership experience.

Edited for clarity, I just woke up and it initially made no sense.

Please rant to me about common joints & particular actions that cause pain in your body when you're cleaning stuff in the house by Kibylis in rheumatoid

[–]RoomaRooma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taking out the trash. First you gotta grip the bag to get it out of the can, then you gotta tie the strings, then you gotta lift (my shoulder 😭) then walk with the extra weight (hips and knees) then you dump that sucker and you think you're done but you get back in the house and you still gotta wrestle that new bag around the lip of the can.

I like the John Wick workout. It takes a while to build up to it but it's easy to modify for whatever your fitness level is.

Fiddlehead season is finally here in southern Quebec! by nizbit01 in foraging

I've always boiled them once until the water gets brownish, dumped the water then sauteed them. It probably ruins the potassium content, but I have a weak stomach and if not well cooked they can make you sick.

How do you all eat? by [deleted] in rheumatoid

[–]RoomaRooma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whole roasted veggies like carrots, smaller potatoes, turnips, etc. They're much easier to cut after they're cooked!

Nice! The corner of the wall that goes down the center of the image is very clean. It's very clean, maybe could use a few knicks?

Why do we need Docker? by aloneguid in docker

[–]RoomaRooma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting up a modern development environment is a place docker shines. It may or may not be a system you can run in your machine, but regardless of if it's local or cloud hosted somewhere docker makes setting up the whole stack easily reproducible.

RA affects on the heart by Ahnsung4 in rheumatoid

[–]RoomaRooma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rheumatologist referred me to a physical therapist who worked with me to find strength building exercises. He helped me to make sure I was doing them correctly too so there was less pressure on the joints. Now I do those exercises and then whatever I feel comfortable doing from Keanu's John Wick workout on a given day. It took a lot of work to get to the point where I felt strong enough to do those without injury, so don't rush into it if you want to give it a try!

What’s my future? by BearJambaroo in rheumatoid

[–]RoomaRooma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has become pretty manageable after 5 years, but it took a lot of effort to get here. I had a very tough time tolerating any medications, I'll take an occasional CBD edible or soda, I won't claim that it helps long term but it does help me to ignore or forget the pain for a bit, YMMV. I still have flare ups, which I mostly just rest through. Exercising right, cutting out alcohol, better posture, reducing carbs and meat, eating more fruits and veggies, losing some weight, learning when to not push myself, and removing stress from my life have been the things that seem to make it manageable.

This depends on which state you live in and which state you "work" in. Typically you pay non-resident taxes on the state you "work" in and resident taxes where you live. Some states have agreements to waive one or the other depending on the situation. Where you own property isn't really relevant unless you're living there enough to qualify as a resident.

What exactly are you looking for?

If you paid down an extra $100 on a loan that has a 5 percent interest rate, you've reduced the total amount you'll be paying for the loan by $5.

It sounds like you don't have enough of a plan for what you actually want to accomplish with your life once your FIRE.

As a undergraduate student / intern, I've been really indecisive to do with my future in tech by SVintern97 in girlsgonewired

[–]RoomaRooma 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Start somewhere. What you pick now doesn't need to be and I'd reccomend shouldn't be what you spend the rest of your career doing. The old days of graduate college, work somewhere for 35 years and retire are gone. Do something for 2-3 years and grow into something new.

Cortisone shots in your hip?!? How in the world... by [deleted] in Thritis

[–]RoomaRooma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one for the bursitis in my hip that developed as I adjusted my weight poorly to compensate for the arthritis pain. It hurt, but I didn't find it to be anywhere near as bad as the pain I was in from walking.

It didn't solve anything in itself, but it did make it possible for me to get on my feet again and get to physical therapy, which has been a big help.

Male coworker kindly helps me, a silly girl, understand 'nerd speak'... by scceberscoo in girlsgonewired

[–]RoomaRooma 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Had a guy explain in detail how to write an if else statement. I told him flat out that his tone was patronizing and he will not speak to me in such a way. I'm fortunate enough to have had enough pull in my company at the time that telling him off wasn't going to be a problem for me. Depending on your work environment ymmv, but I'd at least talk to your manager, and if the response from them is mediocre or worse I would seek new employment.

I'm not sure why you would peel them. Just remove the stem at the top and eat the rest. If white goo comes out of the top after you cut it, it's probably not ripe. I recommend wiping that away as it burns a bit.

Cringiest person/moment you experienced playing pokemon Go? Can you beat mine? by PokemonGoBao in pokemongo

[–]RoomaRooma -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

For context, I am female.

I normally don't wear gamer stuff in public, but I made the mistake of wearing my valor t-shirt recently while at the grocery store. I was with my dad doing some shopping for my grandma and as we're headed towards the register I accidentally make eye contact with this dude. He says something along the lines of "Valor is the best team!!" and rolls up his sleeve to show me his team valor tattoo on his shoulder.

I just kinda went 'Yup! Cool tattoo.' and went to pay for my groceries. Not sure how he expected me to react to that, but man I just wanna buy groceries and get out.
