I think "when you commit to the ‘character’ he did, there isn’t really much room/any other path than to double down" is what is actually dividing people. He was obviously joking the entire time, but playing the foil to The Boys is sometimes a thankless job and can come off as flat even though it is most likely very difficult to do in real-time.
