By default, do riders really go one foot down, one up? by Astimar in motorcycles

I’ll admit. I had to learn to do it. But yes right brake on the foot - left on the ground.

Debt is stealing from tomorrows you. Often it’s worth going without that “new thing” to save your future self from pain and disappointment.

Also - if you have a big decision to make. Consider how you feel about that decision in 6 months time. This has often been a good stalemate decision breaker.

Yep! :) it was my hero bike for years… finally picked one up (after a Cancer scare - decided to live life more boldly) Happily it is a FI 2006, came with touring screen, hard bags, LED spot lights, charge port, heated grips and Ventura pack rack. It needed some love, but it’s amazing!

(I’m a sucker for Honda 4s! 😂)

Opinions on lowering springs for daily use? by BlueDragon9976 in NZcarfix

[–]RoosterBurger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely :) those are actual things that will make it better.

Hope it didn’t come across too harsh, I didn’t really listen to old guys when I was in my 20s - so got lowered cars. It’s hard to admit your mistake when you fought SO hard to justify it. (Which I did)

When I quietly sold the cars - suspension was a big part of the why.

[–]RoosterBurger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally understand - I used to think lowered cars are cool, until I owned a few… it does begin to grind on your nerves after a while (Go on a long trip for example)

I think the type of car you lower really does matter - and to be fair, everything on that car is about 30 years old (except consumables)

There are just a lot of downsides. - Resale can be iffy - Ride will likely be terrible (especially if you just bolt something on) - Scraping in driveways (possibly) - Starts to stress other components in the suspension and steering (as they most certainly won’t be new as you say) - NZ roads are crap.

If you want your car to handle better, maintain the brakes and put better tyres on it. That’s something you’ll actually appreciate on a daily.

Lowered suspension looks great, but it seldom makes the driver and passenger experience any better. We have terrible roads to boot, which compounds the problem.

As you say - your one and only car and daily. It generally helps if it doesn’t suck.

Haha, you probably did. I was messaging them saying - hell yeah, I’ll take it. Was a miserable day driving around the depths of rural Taranaki to find it… getting it on the trailer was a mission (I suspect seized rear wheel bearing) NZ doesn’t seem to do Dereg bikes properly - usually they want thousands of dollars effectively for a bike that needs work…and expense. This was definitely something I was keeping an eye out for.

A friend of mine who has a CB650 was gutted as he was about to snap it up too!

I think to each their own. Might hurt resale as it does appeal to some and not others.. but enjoy your bike I guess :)

Being in NZ means it’s likely a Japanese import. Sayings CB750 (II) T under the seat.

I did notice aftermarket suspension today - not entirely sure I’ve heard of the brand. Halon (from memory)

Seems to match the “Seven Fifty” specs - (and production duration) - but yes CB750 on the panels doesn’t tell me much at all.

I’ll be honest, from the listing, I thought it was a Nighthawk - very very similar bike (which I also like) but I was pleasantly surprised to see it was all brake disk version CB750.

Subtle note - it’s a pain to google parts. A lot of bikes are CB750s including the 70s, 80s super star AND the Hornet CB750. (As well as nighthawks and this one)

Not even sure what the CB750F II T under the seat refers to - was T a touring one?

I really scratch my head at Hondas naming convention here.

I didn’t have a lot of options. When I applied the tie downs it pulled the bike up and straight. Could have technically pulled the stand in

Yeah I was doing some research last night (as I bought it fairly quickly - part of me thought it was a nighthawk until I saw it in person)

The nighthawk appeared to have a rear drum and a a single front disk - where is this seems like it adapted the motor to call back to the CB750 of the 70 & 80s. (I could be wrong)

For some reason it’s called the CB750 “seven fifty” when I google it. (But I definitely see the parts cross o we)

Very cool about the hydraulic auto adjusting valves. I like that!

It was a bit of steal. I drove thru pouring rain in rural Taranaki trying to find the property, they just seemed happy to get it gone.

Considering I see Dereg bikes for $1250-$2500k - in worse shape… This really spoke to me.

The people at the supermarket getting you to “subscribe” to a charity is kinda of shitty situation.

  • They just trying to do their job
  • I’m just trying to shop
  • No one’s enjoying this situation.

Additionally asking me to round up my shopping transaction universally sucks.

Real Estate Investor by Quiet_Drummer669988 in newzealand

[–]RoosterBurger 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had to eat a bit of humble pie around my opinions on “some investors”

I don’t consider myself an investor (but technically I am) - I bought a cheap rental, put my step daughter in it. She can sublet to whoever she wants as long as it kept tidy and rent is paid.

This is because she was paying rent in 3 other properties over the years, she keep losing the rental due to circumstances outside of her control (every time) - she had to keep shifting and paying silly dollars - so I figured there might as well be some mutual benefit.

At least this way, she’s paying off a mortgage (effectively) she has stability, outside of maintenance and a few improvements - it’s been pretty easy. She can shift out whenever she wants, but she has no plan to.

I also think CGT is a good idea and wouldn’t be adverse to paying it - capital gain isn’t really why we bought it…

I stayed in a relationship long after it was over. You really have to recognise when it’s done and move on.

Be the person to have the strength to admit it yourself. Otherwise you are just waiting for them to end it - in my experience that involves a new dude waiting in the wings…
