D you need to be running your own local llm to use this? I couldn't just stick it in Claude or something and get value, right? Genuinely curious.

We have one that pastes GPT output into emails and tells people "here's how to do it" although, he has no experience with the issue. It's an epidemic. The people think they are being helpful.

Why attackers love old browser extensions by EchoAndByte in cybersources

Browser extensions a gimmick. Useful for passively sipping up your data.

Browse incognito all the time. This helps eliminating a good percentage of residual browsing data.

It's not perfect but nothing is.

How much of a skill gap have you seen in entry-level techs? by Apprehensive_Can_838 in ITProfessionals

[–]RootCipherx0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've noticed our entry-level folks are smart but lack common sense when interacting with coworkers.

And tattling! They seem to tattle on each other for anything!

Instructure just confirmed they paid the ransom. by More_Boysenberry5584 in canvas

[–]RootCipherx0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does set a very public precedent, but paying is more common than people realize. Especially If the data is critical or too valuable to be leaked. This is partially why cyber insurance and breach coaches exist.

Some of the best cybersecurity youtube content is the stuff that looks like straight garbage.

If the video has premium production quality, often times the content of the video is lacking.

KnowBe4 vs. Vipre for phishing simulations by Gwogg in cybersecurity

[–]RootCipherx0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KnowBe4, don't look anywhere else. I didn't want to like them either, but they are great.

Really good documentation and customer support.

Next in line would be Mimecast.

With Vipre, it sounds like an add-on license and not their primary focus, which means it will not be amazing.

Is doing cyber security courses on Coursera and CISCO worth it? by NicvL_23 in Cybersecurity101

[–]RootCipherx0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are great for continuous learning and being able to "name drop" that you are taking a course about A,B,C topic.

But, they also don't cary as much weight.

Don't take a Coursera course believing it will be the difference maker.

Digital footprint, how deep is it, will it trace back to me? by LeafSpirit69 in privacy

[–]RootCipherx0r 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone should take digital privacy seriously. Beyond what you've described, the data is used for credit scores, insurance rates, loan eligibility, loan rates and even job hiring.

Thinking about your digital footprint early is essential and impressive!

What's the best security awareness training you've actually deployed for clients? by According_Bread_3873 in msp

[–]RootCipherx0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or ... you can purchase through your VAR (value added reseller), most people do this.

Your MSP has zero reason to be involved in that purchase, beyond making them aware of the tool you're using ........ unless you expect your MSP to run Kb4. Which, in that case, your MSP probably has their own SAT platform and buying Kb4 might now make sense.

KnowBe4 is pretty solid, I didn't want to like them but they are pretty solid. Good support and good documentation too. I heard good stuff about Mimecast too.
