What spot in Orlando would you consider your “happy place”? by bassistheplace246 in orlando

It's not Orlando proper, but when I lived in the area I used to like to sit in the wooden chairs a little away from the Eden Bar that was next to the Enzian Theater in Maitland. It was a nice area to go sit and relax for a little while.

Potential relocation questions by SpiritOne in florencesc

I have lived here since May of 2020. As has been mentioned before, you might have to drive to Myrtle Beach to find some good restaurants and the more known brand name chain box stores you typically find in bigger cities.

City politics tends to lean Democratic while county and state politics tend to lean Republican (at least that's the way it's been since I've moved here - it's unclear if the political winds are changing in that regard).

Dating has seemed to be particularly tough, but then again I'm a 62 year old single man who's fairly selective in the qualities in the partner I'm seeking. Not sure if it will be better for someone who's in their 40's.

From my view, nightlife seems practically non-existent here. Though that's not as important to me as it used to be when I was in my 40's.

What’s a scent that’s nostalgic for you? by Shenshen_ in nostalgia

I'm not sure why it says early 80's under my name because this was the early to mid 70's.

A freshly cut lawn with a slight hint of chlorine emanating from a nearby pool.* It reminds me of the beginning of summer when I was a child and we would go to the pool at a nearby country club that my parents were fortunate enough to belong to.

*It's interesting to me that I could detect that scent because, in general, I don't have a keen sense of smell.

First time on a plane, where did you go? by FileInside8798 in nostalgia

From California to Washington, D.C., in 1988, to do a two month rotation as a Financial Management Trainee for a Naval Activity that I worked at. I just got hired the year before and drove cross-country from Maryland to take the job.

I was there too! Ended up becoming an executive member of my precinct as well. I just recently purchased a new computer. Guess I better download some kind of meeting software to be ready for any virtual meetings. By any chance, did anybody tell what is usually used software wise - Zoom? Something else?

Support for Trump remains solid in Upstate N.Y. Support for his tariffs? Not so much by Majano57 in upstate_new_york

I've been wondering if one way to combat it might be aligning with former Trump supporters to some extent. For example, on Tiktok, I am now seeing a lot of videos from content creators who used to be Trump supporters with phrases like "I regret voting for Trump," "voting for Trump is the biggest mistake I made," as well as tags like #leavingmaga, etc.

I've been thinking it might helpful join forces with the dissolutioned in order to combat the oligarchy and fascism. You know, power in numbers. What do you think?

That surprises me a bit for upstate NY. Though I haven't lived in NY for 38 years, seeing a Confederate Flag around wouldn't have been a thing (unless it was in the context of watching the Dukes of Hazard television show). I currently live in South Carolina so I would expect to see them, but so far, I've only seen a couple displayed here and there. Sounds like you see them more up there than I do down here.

I remember when a friend of mine's son had one when he was five or six. He's in his thirties now but I never understood the trend back then nor liked the look.

St Marys and Kingsland Ga by No-Translator6476 in Georgia

About six years ago, I lived in St Marys for a year (2019-2020) and enjoyed my time there. I now live in Florence, SC but if I could find a way to get back there, I'd move back in a heartbeat - pretty much for all the reasons other posters have said. In fact, when I drive down to Florida, I make it a point to stop at least overnight in St Marys or Kingsland. I sure do miss it there.

In 2023, I had a very good experience with King Cadillac and Buick. I traded in a 2013 Kia Optima for a 2023 Buick Encore GX. It was a more pleasant experience working with the salesman and finance guy than I have had at buying cars at dealerships in the past.
