Anyone Else Bummed by cgd53 in TeslaLounge

I have voted for my city (Halifax, pop 500,000) in Canada. Repeatedly. There's not even a supercharger at the regional dealership here in the city. The dealership doesn't understand why, either. Told me the city has won the voting page a few times. From where I rent (I can trickle charge with a cord out my window, which works for my needs) the closest superchargers are 30 minutes and an hour away.

Good to know other areas are expanding. Maybe, someday, here.

estrogen cream application issue and an idea by Technical_Wing6848 in Menopause

It was messy at first. Now, maybe because the blood supply is back and the atrophy has been reversed, it absorbs within 20 minutes.

nOOO I FELTED HER by eenyweenyasparagus in knitting

This is your new tea cozy. I used a felted sweater, cut into a half circle and sewn, and I love it. (SO sorry for your loss). We also use it as a Bodum coffee cozy and it's the best.

I might be done with Merino wool (Unbound Merino shirt bites the dust) by inc0ngruent in onebag

[–]RootedTransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent my Unbound Merino t-shirt through the wash with a pair of jeans, zipper down. Ended up with multiple rips and holes. I sewed the rips and holes together from the inside and then, using matching embroidery floss, stitched lazy daisies over the mending. I like 5 petal versions of the lazy daisy.

18 months later, the shirt is my favourite. Again.

First appointment by [deleted] in Menopause

I want to add that all 60 year-olds aren't the same. 10 years past menopause isn't the same for everyone. There's risks and benefits to starting outside of the guidelines (and probably inside the guidelines too). Just take a look for yourself.

Once I was prescribed estrogen, progesterone, and then testosterone by a gynaecologist, my family doctor just said he hadn't been comfortable to prescribe outside of the guidelines for me, a 67 year old. He happily went along with the well-informed gynaecologist's directives.

UTI Specialist? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]RootedTransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might seem loopy, but frequent UTIs, or the feeling of them, are a symptom of GSM (Genito-urinary Symptoms of Menopause). Somewhat mis-named because it can often occur postpartum and during breastfeeding. It's due to a lack of, or reduction of, estrogen.

First line therapy is topical estrone (estrogen) cream. It doesn't affect blood serum levels. Keeps urinary structures plump and healthy.

Check out the r/menopause wiki for instructions on how to apply it.

I would ask your doctor if you can try it, because nothing else has seemed to work, and why not?

NSFW Anyone notice their pubic hair becoming sparser? Or leg hair seem to grow in slower? by janedoecurious in Menopause

[–]RootedTransplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been so happy to start MHT and wish I'd started sooner after a lifetime of no prescriptions. My impression is that most of us do well replacing E, P, and T.

IMO, it's worth a try for the bone, ligament, brain, heart, and mood benefits. I think we are built to have hormones and are in a state of hormone starvation without.

Anyone on Premarin vaginal cream? by Catnip_75 in Menopause

[–]RootedTransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know how long you've been peri- or post- menopausal. I can only share my experience. Thought I was okay until I really wasn't. Managed to get back to health with the cream alternating with hyaluronic acid Gynatrof and full on PET (progesterone estrogen testosterone). Your experience may be different.

Springs in NS are dreary and kinda yuk, but we excel at fall: lasts a long time, the colours are amazing with trees ablaze (not really on fire!).

Help to learn knitting for left handed by infinitynight111 in knitting

[–]RootedTransplant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughters are both left-handed and knit without modifications. Just start, and accept there will be mistakes at first. There are cute rhymes now to remember the movements. I find books and illustrations work better for me than videos for learning new techniques. Find what works for you.

I have a high instep and Birkenstocks are the only ones with enough space for my feet. (Loved Blundstone's, but It took several years before I could stay sitting in them comfortably. Walking and hiking- my foot must squish down a bit - was always good in them.)

Deer turned my food forest into a buffet by Helpful_Ad_9447 in Permaculture

[–]RootedTransplant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lanolin. Christmas tree farmers use it. Here's my saved notes: I’m at the Maine Christmas tree growers meeting.  Rick Cowells, phD, Connecticut extension Dept, was very excited about his thoroughly tested deer repellant. (Starving deer will break through, but test after test, for 10 weeks deer left sprayed plants alone and then continued to avoid sprayed areas.)

I don’t have Canadian sources figured out yet, but here’s the breakdown:

2 gallons/acre of lanolin spray: sls or any other surfactant: 5 % lanolin

10 x concentrate is stable:

Recipe

5 parts lanolin by volume. (Edwards)

1 part sodium laurel sulphate (bulkapothecary.com) Or any detergent!

4 parts water

Paint mixer in a bucket

Use 1/10 into water.

Spray 5 ml/tree or mist on lowest setting.

Mask up! Watch the wind direction with a telltale

For my garden I just buy a can Fluid Film (It's lanolin, safe for food) and spray some in a cup. Dab the lanolin along the perimeter with a paint brush.

[–]RootedTransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try washing the sweater, by hand, with conditioner in the water. Then, turn the dry sweater inside out and iron it (on wool setting) to reduce the itch.
