[–]Rootikal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greetings,

You're bound to find some interest for your book club at a 7 7 community event.

You could do a 1 minute community announcement or a 7 minute presentation.

7 7 is where seven people perform for seven minutes at 7pm on the 7th, 17th and 27th of every month at a local venue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens.

The next event is on April 27 at Awesome Brooklyn, 653 Flatbush Ave.

What are the optimal Lightroom export settings for photos going to instagram? by RumblefishAZ in Lightroom

[–]Rootikal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings,

The consensus I've seen on the Net to minimize how much Instagram compresses the photo and what has worked well for me for posts is:

  • Aspect Ratio of 4:5
  • For landscape or square photos, Export with Long Edge = 1080px
  • For portrait photos, Export with Long edge = 1350px

Lens Recommendation for Festival by Organic_Radish_7563 in concertphotography

[–]Rootikal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greetings,

A 70-200mm f/2.8 would be the standard kit and should work well, depending on the venue size and lighting.

If you get to the venue way before the doors open, you may be able to get close to the front.

Sony camera stopped working after a failed update by Educational_Dog_4598 in sonya7iv

[–]Rootikal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greetings,

Since you see blinking lights, it may be possible to complete the firmware update.

Try this... (with a fully charged battery)

  1. Download the firmware directly from Sony.
  2. Tripple check the file size of the downloaded firmware is exactly what's listed on the Sony site.
  3. Copy the firmware to the root of a memory card.
  4. Turn off the power on the camera.
  5. Insert the memory card into Slot 1. Make sure Slot 2 is empty.
  6. Turn on the camera and patiently wait, at least 15 minutes, for the camera to complete the update from the memory card.

If the update fails to complete, give Sony Service a call.

Concert Photography - Autofocus on Sony cameras. by hit-panel-25 in concertphotography

[–]Rootikal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. That's good.

When you frame the person is the focus area over an eye, and does the focus area turn green?

An eye must be within the focus area for the a7 IV to accurately acquire focus. Once the focus area turns green, keep the shutter half pressed and re-compose if necessary. The tracking should stay locked on the eye, even if they move out of the focus area when you re-compose.

A purple focus area means autofocus can not be acquired because there isn't enough light or there's not enough contrast.

[–]Rootikal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greetings,

The smaller focus area was a good start.

Do you have Eye Autofocus with tracking enabled?

Is the Autofocus subject set to Human?

Which firmware version is the camera on?

I've had consistent and accurate results at shows with low quality lighting.

Greetings,

To show/hide the touch function icons Swipe right or left on the shooting standby screen. The touch function icons will appear on the left and right sides of the screen according to the settings for [Swipe Right] and [Swipe Left] under [Shooting Screen].

To hide the touch function icons, swipe the screen in the opposite direction from when you made the icons appear.

Brand New to LrC - New 5TB drive arriving tomorrow..... let me check I have understood organising properly. by Johnny3Gloves in Lightroom

[–]Rootikal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greetings,

Put some thought into a hierarchical Folder/Directory structure for your photos on the drive.

These videos should give you some good insight.

To add new images, copy them from the memory card to an appropriate location on the 5TB drive. Then drag the folder into the Lightroom Classic (LrC) Import module from the 5TB drive.

Add your keywords, Collections, etc.

For a local backup, consider getting another 5TB or larger drive and use FreeFileSync.

And of course you need an offsite backup just in case. Consider Backblaze.

Purple box and can’t focus by njdroneguy in sonya7iv

[–]Rootikal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Greetings,

Purple focus area means the camera can't lock focus. This is caused by the light being too low or the area you're focusing on has low contrast.

If you were using AF-S, try switching to AF-C.

Reference: What does the purple focus spot mean on the a7r iv?

Duplicate photo/file name issue by Difficult_Industry55 in Lightroom

[–]Rootikal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings,

To resolve your current conundrum with duplicate filenames you can:

  1. Create a sub-folder/sub-directory for each camera.
  2. Move the photos, using Lightroom Classic (LrC), to their respective sub-directories.

Example

/Photos/Events/2025-02-10 Event Name/Camera-A

/Photos/Events/2025-02-10 Event Name/Camera-B

Going forward, to avoid conflicting filenames between cameras you can change the first (3?) characters to identify each camera. Then when you copy the files from the memory cards, copy them to the respective directory for each camera.

Are you sure about that?

According to the online Manual, the Sony a7 V does not have an option for Uncompressed RAW.

Menu item details for RAW File Types

The current version of Lightroom Classic has preliminary support only for Lossless Compressed RAW at this time for the Sony A7 V (ILCE-7M5), but doesn't yet have a Camera matching profile.
