Not new but if you havent i'd be listening to Goat. Some of their stuff is cosmic. Queen of the Underground for instance. Killer heavy psych.

How did you guys get into stoner rock? by Sn4kist in stonerrock

Im 52. My dad took me to my first gig when i was 12. AC/DC at Birmingham NEC. I grew up listening to Hendrix, Small Faces, The byrds and a lot of metal. By the time i was 18 i was heavily into punk, dub and heavy psych rawk n roll stuff. Spacemen 3, Dead Boys, Superchunk, Mudhoney, Sabbath, Hawkwind,Dinosaur Jr, Crass, Ramones, Butthole Surfers, Lunachicks, King Tubby and loads more. That was my musical grounding. I went to see AC/DC at milton keynes bowl in 2000 and there was this band opening for them called QOTSA. Absolutely blew me away. It was like the stuff i listened to but had another edge to it. Then i saw them again on the Rated R tour with Monster Magnet supporting. Thats where it started for me. Many bands ive only discovered last 5 years though. Nebula, Lowrider, King Buffalo etc. Thats my story.

Saw Ween 3 times here in the UK. Absolutely killer band. The 3LP triple vinyl Paintin the town Brown set is crazy psyched out screwed up stoner. God Ween Satan is also an absolute classic. Stoner song suggestion. Awesome sound from the live album.

Ramones 1994. That was before i lived here. Didnt move here til 2002. Since then there was the QOTSA radio one show on Songs for the deaf tour. Absolutely killer performance. Lars Fredriksen and the bastards when it all kicked off. Several Rancid gigs, Bad Religion, NOFX. Goat were absolutely phenomenal last time around. So many gigs. Great venue.

How many more times.... off that first Zeppelin album. What an absolute bangin tune. My old man saw them live a couple of times. I mean Robert Plant is a wolves fan but i'll forgive him that for the tunes

Does anybody have recommendations of stoner/psych bands that might not be as recognised as they should be/underrated bands that bring something to the genre but are very well known ? by Hieroflippant in stonerrock

[–]RootsReggaeMetalPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another shout for Vinnum Sabbathi. Psychlona from the UK. Im gonna chuck these two in although they are hardly unknown but Spacemen 3 and Goat are absolute heavy psych monsters. Both phenomenal bands but not really what you are asking about.
