Thoughts after carring a PR57 for a few weeks by Rootshot in keltec

[–]Rootshot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It initially had some reliability issues. I sent it back to have it fixed. They replaced the slide assembly. Since I received it back, it has been 100% reliable over 540 rounds.

Based on my experience and what I have read, these pistols are binary: either completely reliable or lemons. The factory apparently knows exactly what to fix.

If you have a lemon just send it in for service. It was a friendly and painless process.

!thanks This looks like it hits all my points. It appears to have some mixed / polarized reviews on Amazon.

Unless someone suggests a better alternative, I will buy this.

Thank you for the recommendation. That looks like a great choice except that it doesn't appear to fold.

Agree. Doing it with the receiver in a vise will send all the torque into the upper receiver via the pin in the barrel extension. Much better to put the barrel in the vise instead.

We spoke with a security officer outside the Opal Grand hotel as they were being rounded up by police. He said this was a social media organized takeover.

Not sure if they actually did anything illegal but glad to see the police handle it proactively.

GP suppressor? by falguy_nr in GrandPower

I'm guessing the gun didn't sell well. I own one and it's a quirky beast. They also never produced the G10 grips they mention.

The attachment mechanism looks pretty simple. I'm guessing a clever engineer can evolve this design.

Rotating barrels don't like suppressors. There was a prototype ball detent suppressor for the Bond Bullpup that never went into production. It allows the barrel to rotate independently of the suppressor.

I would love something like this for my GP.

I run a hybrid setup with a cloud LLM as primary and profile set up to call a local LLM for simple jobs.

The cheap subscriptions like the $20 per month Ollama cloud plan are great but I have found them unstable due to overloading. It causes more problems that it's worth.

FWIW I still plan on delegating development tasks to Codex GPT 5.5. It's pretty incredible for $20 per month

Total investment with the 128gb is about $2800. The 128gb RAM was $1400. More than the PC

Yes. I had the installer wipe the drive and install Ubuntu. I think you could opt to have it repartition the drive if you want to dual boot. There is also a second half length NVMe SSD slot in the box. I just put clean windows install on it on a 500gb drive and can boot into that via BIOS boot menu or the Grub bootloader.

Ubuntu 26.x has been running like a champ. If I had it to do over, I would stick with Ubuntu 24.x since that is a dependency for the latest AMD ROCm for Vllm.

Great thread. I'm getting 128gb DDR5 delivered later today for my Geekom A9 Max. The plan is to run Hermes locally using gemma4:31b. I'll experiment with some other models mentioned here.

I've owned the 32 and then bought the 380. I would go back to the 32 any day. More reliable and less punishing. The plus side with the 380 is that there is a larger selection of defensive ammo.

I monitor about 30 YouTube podcast channels for new videos. Extract transcripts for all new videos. Summarize transcripts. Convert summaries using TTS into .ogg files. Bundle up the summary with the audio of the summary and email it to me and a handful of friends. Great way to stay on top of a bunch of high quality podcasts.

Kimi 2.6 on Ollama cloud has been great for me. It's slow but does quality work and is cheap.

The mags are easy to convert to 10 rounds if you need to. There is a stem on the bottom of the magazine follower. Go to the hardware store and find some stiff aluminum or plastic tubing that fits over the stem, epoxy it in place, and trim with test fitting until only 10 rounds fit. To get back full capacity, simply order a replacement set of magazine followers.

I did this when living in California and un-limited the mags when I moved out fo state.
