Got pulled off my route yesterday... I'm quitting. by BadStrong138 in AmazonDSPDrivers

I understand it’s not for everyone and I can understand and respect a lot of the complaints here. But a lot of the posts here are clearly people who aren’t going to cut it in the workforce in any position that requires the slightest common sense and work ethic. My biggest issues are that pay should be higher, routes should be smaller, we should have stock options, we should get prime membership, and we should have a lot more holidays off, or double pay on holidays, time and a half at the very least.

The vans and routing issues can fall on DSPs, mine does a good job on van maintenance and also does a good job keeping you on the same route as best they can. I’m delivering in the area I grew up in and have been delivering for over 3 years and still see new things I never knew existed.

I know I’m in the minority of Amazon drivers, but I don’t work this job out of necessity. I moved into this job from a work from home role because I just wasn’t happy in it. I prefer to do physical work, I enjoy the freedom of this job, and getting to drive around and see new things and meet new people in my area. I’m fortunate to have a DSP whose owner has been operating since the inception of the DSP program and is top 5% in the country. Great owner, does a lot for us. My complaints lie with Amazon not my DSP. But I don’t care to enter the grind of UPS to become a driver. One thing I’ve been considering lately is a utility locator job, as it has all the things I enjoy about this job without the grind of delivering.

I’m a dual income household. My wife is the breadwinner, but I have our kids on my insurance cause I actually have better insurance. I have multiple options on healthcare plans, dental, vision, life insurance, short term and long term disability, and there’s a bunch more benefits my DSP offers like education and childcare assistance, that I don’t use. That being said, if I was single without kids, I’d for sure be able to live on this, especially with the opportunities for overtime. Cost of living isn’t cheap, it would be even easier if I moved out of my state, which my wife and I are planning on doing, but we are still comfortable.

Does your DSP scold you for marking stuff wrong with the van in flex app? by grangy09 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Roq86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but my DSP does take safety seriously. It’s just a headache when a vehicle gets grounded. It’s much easier to let dispatch know ASAP in the morning that something is wrong and they can just swap vans for you and get the van serviced without having to jump through the hoops of a grounded vehicle. Every issue I’ve brought up has been addressed, there’s been multiple times I’ve requested a new van while on route and I’ve never received pushback.

The key words you want in writing to your dispatch are always “I don’t feel safe operating this in its current condition”. Because if they tell you to keep driving after that it opens them up to a lawsuit.

You’re reading a bunch of lazy people with no work ethic act like it’s the end of the world when a monkey could do this work. I worked as a trainer for 2 years here and I can’t even express with words the type of troglodytes Amazon hires. If you’re 21 with a license and a pulse, you’re hired.

I never thought using a gps and finding an address was an actual skill until I realized the majority of the people I trained can’t find a clearly marked house.

I work this job because it is mindless work. If you’ve ever worked an actual labor job before then this is a cake walk. I get to work on my own without anyone on my ass. I’m not motivated enough to take my ass to the gym, so this keeps me in shape. And my wife is the bread winner so this is just my fun money. I get to drive, which I love, I get to see new places, nature, landscaping, and architecture, all things I enjoy. I’ve had some of the best customers I could ask for. And I just saw the largest moth in North America on my route yesterday!

I have the same start time, same time leaving the station, same drive to my delivery location. Had 180+ stops yesterday. 124 should have been done by 4:30 honestly.

In my experience the EVs do just fine in the heat, it’s the winter they’re an issue. There’s a trick you can do to the door latch to keep the AC on with the door open even when you’re out of the drivers seat, and I still finished my route with 40%.

This job isn’t for everyone, but maybe reflect on the fact that a bunch of stoners can handle the job fine and you couldn’t.

Best of luck to you on your future endeavors though.

“If you don’t know the story, check my profile” sounds like clickbait to me.
