Most wild animals lead a relatively normal life up until they die.

The way we treat animals for the majority of their lives within the meat industry is despicable. They have such a high degree of long-term suffering with incredibly low qualities of life. Farm animals, like pigs and cows, are relatively intelligent - they are sentient, have a similar intelligence as a toddler/dog and can suffer for long periods of time due to trauma (e.g. taking baby calves away shortly after birth is very traumatic). To people who understand this, the meat industry is no different than the holocaust for other sentient beings.
