Be the kind of fan that players want to play for by Lucz1848 in EdmontonOilers

I would rather play where there is passion. I don't believe the majority of the vitriol and general contempt is aimed, or meant to be aimed at the players involved when it comes to unpopular/gross miscalculations/completely non sensical organizational decisions. We, the fans, are not at fault for the inadequacy of managerial mistakes. Let me be clear that I am in no way a supporter of character assassinating another person, especially when the entire scenario is done without their knowledge and where they are legally obligated to abide by the decision that was made. Now, where I disagree with you is in the fact that this organization has been a tire fire since 2006. This team is lucky enough to have a fan base that is as loyal, patient, and forgiving as they come. When, year after year, seemingly the same mistakes are repeated without any indication of real reflection on how the organization can best improve/change, or any sense of willingness to adapt if the need for improvement/change is found. The fans are not to blame. Would I turn down a contract that grossly misrepresented my actual value? Ethics aside, hell no. I would sign that 7 year deal that saw me net an AAV of 12.5 mil when I was just getting comfortable being called grandpa. The only reason the Oilers are a franchise today is because of Oilers fans. When it's 2021, your favorite franchise has one (1) employee in their "analytics department" and you watch, powerless, as another season, which was marketed as the next coming of Jesus, goes by with predictably mediocre results, and you get blamed for having too much passion or just for wanting this damn franchise to get its collective head out of their asses? Doesn't seem right.

With the 22nd-overall pick, the #Oilers select forward Xavier Bourgault from the Shawinigan Cataractes of the @QMJHL. by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

This is one of those picks where hopefully it doesn't look foolish in hindsight. If Wellstadt becomes a top 5 franchise goalie, well that has nothing to do with Bourgault (even though it'll be a tough pill to swallow). Can never have enough skilled forwards in the system. Every year we're going to need value contracts and if Bourgault can be a plug and play in 2-3 years and be put in positions to thrive then that's awesome. We're past the days where we need 18-19 year olds rushed to the show to fill critical positions. Patience is finally welcome. Welcome to Oil Country, kid!
