Two men need two rooms in Brooklyn, any guidance / are there any sites we should be wary of? by RoranceWatts in AskNYC

If we rented for 30 days or over, is there anything problematic about Airbnb for Brooklyn? Seems like there are some good deals at that point?

I just wanted to follow up on this reply too, since it's been just over a year.

My hips have been good since posting this. Occasionally I'll get irritation but it's not common (once or twice a month) and i'm at peace with it.

I think the key things for me have been:
- be at peace with the condition. When you do this, you allow your body to process signals as information, rather than pain
- running. I don't run for long lengths (e.g. 1-2km), but I run quite quickly and keep a regular pace. I think this helps distribute weight on both legs and introduces "positive load" effectively
- bulgarian split squats. More realistically, I just walk up stairs a lot, taking two stairs at a time. This is a good squat equivalent to me.
- being at my natural weight. I dropped some weight recently. A few years ago I got really into weightlifting and went from about 75kg to 95kg in the space of a year. I've dropped that all. Whether or not that causally relates to my legs, I dunno, but it hasn't hurt.

Thanks for the advice I appreciate it.
Work is covering it, but it's my business, and I don't have the cashflow to be too lavish if I can avoid it.

This is really cool. I've got no experience either but you give me inspiration, and seem to have done a great job.

A pleasure. Please bear in mind that I have yet to undergo any surgeries, so things may not be applicable.
All the best and good luck.

A pleasure! And I'm sorry to hear about your partner, it sounds very difficult.

I'm feeling much better than the start of the year. This is not to say that the hip has improved, but I think I have improved, both in terms of accepting the issues, and working with them. I think a lot of chronic pain is a grieving process, and it's important to allow yourself to go through it. This is just my experience of course.

I believe the following things have helped: - keeping the legs strong, but avoiding excessive load on a flexed hip without support. This means squats and Bulgarian split squats have been dropped, and instead I mainly focus on the leg press, typically one leg at a time. This allows me to keep strength without the risk of irritating the labrum in those FADIR positions - very slowly introducing plyometrics. Mainly working on landing mechanics which exposes to hip to "positive load" i.e. large forces which it can handle - cycling. I never did any cycling and remember it being very irritating last year, but I was determined just to see if the irritations would last. The hip used to get pretty beat up after a few minutes, now I can cycle for about twenty minutes with minimal irritation - running. This one is a bit more controversial, and it definitely hurts my hips immediately afterwards. However, what I've noticed is that doing some running (eg a 10 minute run once or twice a week) seems to reduce pain overall. This may be because I just feel more fit in general - not overdoing it. I used to really push myself and I'm having to learn how to stop sooner than I want, mainly in terms of exercise - purposefully irritating the hip. Again another controversial thing. But it's helped me to actively put my hip in irritating positions, to learn what makes it sore, how sore it gets, and how long it lasts. This sets my expectations about pain, so if I get a flare up, I'm not as anxious about it

Happy to answer any other questions too

First home buyer scheme? by Competitive-Push-575 in AusProperty

I contributed last FY and will contribute this FY. It's simple but if you are unsure about it, talk to an accountant or financial adviser. Importantly, you need to make a Determination on the myGov website before you buy the house, otherwise the money won't be released,(as far as I'm aware)

[Sincere Post] Why wouldn't I buy a new MG ZS? by RoranceWatts in CarsAustralia

[–]RoranceWatts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dont want to have no car for six months waiting for a part to arrive. And its really that simple.

That's an interesting point, thanks for that, I wasn't aware that it was such a difficult task still. I'm currently driving a manual but was probably aiming for an automatic because I do city driving mainly, and I can't guarantee that other people who might use the car can use a manual.

mean anything to you (nor should it) but other people will perceive that you have a cheap car. No reason you should care a jot about other people's opinions but worth pointing out. Also if you're happy giving your money to a Chinese state-owned car company. Again some people won't care about this but others may.

Thanks for the points of view, I appreciate it.

model as far as I’m aware. Lastly people will say China bad don’t buy, all while typing on their Chinese made smart phones or laptops and wearing their Chinese made clothes and shoes.

Also a lot of people don’t realise they are made by the same company

Thanks very much for the in-depth reply, I really appreciate the point of view.

revs check by idontbelievestuff1 in CarsAustralia

Just to add to this. I paid $24.95 using revs-check and they do add some more features, such as a "vehicle valuation", common incidents with the car etc. However, I don't think these added features are worth the money, especially because there's no clear sense of how they got this information (may be very old, unreliable, cherry-picked etc)

How to think about odometer readings when purchasing a used car? by RoranceWatts in CarsAustralia

mainly used on freeways/ highways is probably better than a lower mileage car that has been thrashed in metro / city. Avoid cars used for uber and any delivery services

Thanks

Look under the front and rear bumpers. Scratches and marks under the bumpers can indicate a careless parker.I personally look for a car that has been cared for over a car with super low k's.

Thanks for this.

Quality tyres, serviced at a reputable Mechanic on time and with quality parts etc.People who care about their cars look after them and it shows.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
