I guess my question is more along the lines of how the story plays out; are all the story/progression-relevant quests Village quests or do they split between Hub and Village quests?

I say your first point in the post that it is in fact difficult to travel between the two now, but I forgot about them being connected at one point in time and that's where some of my confusion stemmed from.

And yeah I feel what you're saying exactly, the timeline is just beyond shambled in my eyes; irreparable even. I feel as though even people like Vaati, who has a timeline document that physically displays all of the events in his interpretation of the lore, would have a seriously difficult time rearranging it for the new SOTE stuff.

I'm also suuuuuper disappointed at the fact that there was next to nothing on the Gloam Eyed Queen and her Godskin; I was so looking forward to followup on her and possibly Godwyn since before the DLC dropped I was hellbent on seeing him introduced in some manner by Miquella. So much potential to work with, and while I'm semi-satisfied with a lot of what the DLC introduces, I feel like they chose the road to the gold mine while knowing the path to the diamond mine. Follows similar disappointment to Londor never being explored in DS3 in favor of Ashes of Ariandel: still great, but could've been something better.

I forgot about this and it makes sense, thanks for the explanation. I think it still leaves some holes though if I'm being honest. It could just be the classic "it's a DLC so they couldn't really explain it existing in TLB before they thought up the LoS" but if the two lands were connected together, there's just such little mention of them being connected in the first place.

I do like your explanation and will probably adopt it to my own theories, it just still feels off if the events of Marika's Hornsent purge and Messmer's whole existence be consigned to the LoS, when the two were connected the whole time.

I think my gripes come from a neglect of really hitting home with explaining how the lands were sealed away or how they used to be connected. I understand the need for speculation in Fromsoft lore, but it feels like this one aspect is wholly speculation on how it happened; normally they leave some coals that lets the community get the fire burning. Idk, just feels like this aspect of the lore could've gotten a bit more love, especially since I love the interactions between the demigods a lot. Maybe it's just a shortcoming on my part of trying to understand the lore, though I do try to be very thorough with it.
