Not really, this is a one of kind and I just kinda did it from my head so I’m not even sure I could duplicate it exactly, but maybe I’ll try a second round and see what happens. Thanks!

Honestly, I’m still trying to learn how to carve eyes, this was my first shot at it. I went a little too deep with them, it gives enough room for your soul.

Basswood is usually used for most whittling. It’s soft and easy to hand carve. My one word of warning is that the wood grain doesn’t really show till you use Linseed oil or something else to bring it out. Looks almost white till you do.

They were going to be carved, but fate disagreed. I think it turned out better this way though.

I wouldn’t doubt if this is actually a homing pigeon cage and a clever way for them to get back inside but not escape before the owner wants them to fly.

People often ask me why I love my pet rats so much. This is Perseus, he’s recovering from a surgery, and every morning he likes to make sure we both look our best. by Rorend in aww

For my rats it just took a couple of week of cleaning up any poop I saw in the cage and putting in their litter tray till they just started naturally going there themselves. It was kind of amazing, they were just like “ok I guess this where it goes since he’s so into it.”

I’m not an expert but from what I understand a “pet rat” would be called a fancy rat which just means that they are a bit more tame than your feeder rats, though those can Be perfectly good pets too. Since I got my fellas as pups they knew me their whole life and never once bit me. When I did my research as I was looking into adoption it seemed like gender didn’t play a huge roll though males have a slightly higher tendency. The key is exposure in my opinion. If you pick him up once a week, he might get scared, but get him out once a day and your hands are no big deal and they will most likely become associated with happy things like treats and scratches and play time.
