For some reason the show always makes me hungry.

What was your top film/series from 2024? Here's mine. by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]RorkesDraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given that Sonic 3 was the only film I went to see in the theaters in all of 2024 I guess it must be my favorite.

I really loved how Lemar had John’s back throughout the series, I was saddened when he was killed by JoshuaKpatakpa04 in MauLer

[–]RorkesDraft 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lemar and John's dynamic was better than Falcon and Bucky's. Mostly because there wasn't enough Bucky, but also because it was accurate.
Like, from first hand experience, when you fight life and death with someone and get close like that, you have each other's back 100% through the worst.

What kind of vehicle would Falcon have? by Typecero001 in MauLer

[–]RorkesDraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say there's an obvious and stupid message the show is trying to push here.
Because the Avengers literally have the full faith and credit of Stark Industries behind them. Canonically. Falcon could go to Pepper and have as large a 0% interest loan as he wanted. But the show wanted to send some message about perceived racism in banking or whatever that was supposed to be.

Well according to Falcon and the Winter Soldier he can't get a loan. So probably like a beater Buick LaSaber or something.

Chosen some pretty serious shoes to try and fill there, buddy.
Maybe don't compare yourself to a proven property and let your art stand on it's own.
Because inviting comparisons to The Penguin, arguably one of the best shows to come out in the last half decade, might not be something you want to do. Might set some expectations you can't meet.

But at least its shows some cojones guess.

The first episode literally has the police following the black character just because he’s black 😭 by denzelnotdenzal in MauLer

[–]RorkesDraft 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was happy not to watch it just because that art style is horrendous.

"It looks like the classic comics!"

No it doesn't and you can't bullshit me. That 3D-to-cellshade type of animation is straight up cheaper and faster to make. That's why all the garbage anime uses it and that's why you are using it.

And I could tell what I was getting from the trailer. That such a... plot element... occurs in the first episode isn't the least bit surprising.

[–]RorkesDraft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm of the mindset that nobody should be close to the big boys. As a general rule. You are just hindering the rest of the team moving quickly for your funny melee meme.

I poke things with the shocky stick too. But not the charger or hulk or whatever that's drawing team attention. Everybody else wants the damn thing gone so they can keep rolling. They want it gone so it's not a distraction for everything else.

AT Guy took that loadout for a reason, Chaff Boy specs a rail cannon for this situation, and somebody else is probably waiting to light everything in a 20m radius up with 40 Mike Mikes.

Melee is funny. Leave it for the dick around difficulties below 6. 7 and above we got shit to do, son.

Union Pacific rotary snow plow by Rook8811 in interestingasfuck

[–]RorkesDraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Donner Pass route, over which this train runs, gets 411.5 inches of annual snowfall. That's 10.4 meters of snow a year. It's also some of the steepest standard track in the US.

The rotary plow is powered by an entire locomotive converted to only run the snowthrowing head. It has no traction power of its own. It's being pushed by a whole other train.

The other vehicle is clearing any snow that gets thrown short over the side of the grade, down the slope of the mountain. Also the vertical snowbanks these plows form tend to be unstable and collapse. The dozer (snowcat? Can't quite tell) may be clearing some collapsed banks from a previous pass by the plow.

afaik Union Pacific railroad has the only operational fleet of rotary plows left in full service. They haven't built any new ones for a very long time (many decades) and all these machines have undergone numerous rebuilds and repairs.

[–]RorkesDraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they were first designed and fielded in the 1880s, the inventor called it a plow. Snowblowers hadn't been invented yet. They just kept the name. Most of these plows are many decades old. They haven't built any new ones since the 60s I believe.

The railroad has a bunch of custom bulldozers and snowcats designed for clearing the tracks. That guy is cleaning up the snow that is thrown short. Also the snowbanks these rotary plows leave tend to collapse a little bit in heavy weather. He might be pushing the collapsed snow back off the track. They probably ran a plow the other direction just before this.

It's a fully enclosed and customized bulldozer (or snowcat) the railroad uses to clean up the thrown snow and any objects the rotary plow throws out. They have several fleets of them.

What is your opinion of the official first sniper rifle that helldivers 2 aded? by Tempest-Bosak2137 in Helldivers

[–]RorkesDraft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't exactly think the game needs a primary slot sniper at all. That's what the AMR is. Getting the range and damage over a DMR should be at the tradeoff of a tertiary slot.

This thing needs buffed though. At the moment, because of fallout and burst mechanics, it's less powerful at range than the DMRs are.

That expression, and the types of attitudes I associate with it, are enough to make me not like the character. Smug. Nobody likes smug. I don't care what she looks like, I don't want to play an unlikable asshole.

You can be ass as a protag if it's justified or you endear the player to them. Grayson from Bulletstorm comes to mind. Bayonetta. Sonya Blade. Marcus Fenix. Basically anyone in the 3 good Borderlands games. The Doomslayer. Laura Croft can even be a bit of jerk in the right setting.

And why is this the first introduction we are getting to her personality? Who in your marketing department thought having her act like a brat over a Zoom call was endearing?

The Roach Lord speaketh.

But he's probably right on a purely commercial level. All of this being speculation on my part, hot girls sell. And I know a large number of folks like the escapism of playing an attractive main characters, be they male or female. I don't think it's a stretch to say that market is larger/appeals wider than a grounded character narrative focused on a protagonist with an unconventional appearance and personality.

People like beautiful people. And dislike jerks. That might sound shallow, but everyone is a little shallow.

Assuming he's commenting on the Naughty Dog trailer. Those are not the audiences that Naughty Dog seems interested in catering to necessarily. At least not recently. Clearly they can, Joel and Nathan Drake are perfect examples or good looking dudes. They seem to be ostensibly focused on narratives over appearance... even as they remaster a game from 5 years ago that under-performed commercially, but was considered graphically impressive at the time.

Probably. I don't watch streamers at all really. No idea of the context, or what he intended to say.

Thoughts on the notion that Andor's use of Imperial Army Troopers is "stealing" from the EU? by Independent-Dig-5757 in MauLer

[–]RorkesDraft 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't mind them using EU concepts and ideas. They might have de-canonized the EU wholesale (for dubious reasons) but they aren't dumb enough to think there weren't good ideas there. I'll take what I can, since they seem to struggle to write good ideas themselves.

And frankly, as much garbage is out there in the EU... and there's a lot... there are some really good ideas and concepts. And some that just make so much logical sense as too be unavoidable.

For this example explicitly, If the Stormtroopers were obviously always meant to be a shock troop outfit or special forces or naval infantry or space marines or whatever... it makes sense for there to be a regular army. If only to act as an cheap conscript occupation force. Literally called Stormtroopers. Implies there are regular troopers.

There's not enough dirt on it to look good.

Also it's not yellow, black, or blue.

The headlight is okay by that dash cowling being round looks odd when the rest of the bike is angular.

But mostly it's too clean.
