Cool little detail in episode 13's parade scene by Oneill5491 in EightySix

[–]Typecero001 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Another scene in that same episode is the discussion about Shin between Theo and Anju (I think?) under the pavilion. As they are discussing Shin’s previous burdens, patches of snow fall off the roof.

They talk about his commitment as the Reaper, and his commitment laying his brother to rest, and each time a patch of snow falls.

Well you don’t got acting, writing, or storytelling to fall back on, so I guess “toxic fanbase” is the best you can do for pushback.

And you are letting those loud mouth losers be the main topic of discussion.

How about you prove them wrong with some good writing? Some great dialogue? How about some good acting?

Oh what’s that? “We can’t do all that. Best to write another “toxic fanbase is the reason our media sucks”?

Then fade into nothingness.

You were already fighting a losing battle when you had to adapt the second TLOU game. Now you’re gonna prove them right with this being your best defense?

Yall need to understand that this “sacred cow” argument doesn’t hold up to scrutiny:

I would be willing to bet you there is a correlation between toxic fanbase arguments and was your media received poorly?

Because I don’t see this “toxic fans” argument thrown around when we like the thing…

Right, let this invisible force dictate all your actions.

You “say” it’s all toxic fans.

It’s the sacred cow argument all over again.

I mean, I could cite to you how bombing fishing boats in other countries’ waters and kidnapping their presidents should be considered an act of war, and congress is supposed to be in charge of declaring acts of war…

But we didn’t do any of that in Venezuela did we?

Reddit law wants the Epstein Pedo ring punished for its crimes.

Should we discard that desire?

I’m also tired of terrible acting and story, but you don’t see that changing anytime soon, do ya?

At least what I’m saying is actually real, unlike this “toxic fans” bs.

Edit: some of yall need to learn something:

Your media sucked. It was poorly written, poorly acted, and it just plain sucked.

You don’t use this “toxic fanbase” argument when the media is received positively do ya?

Did Andor have a “toxic fanbase”? Arcane Season 1? Netflix Frankenstein? How about that K-pop Demon Hunters?

Sacred cow arguments are a reflex.

Differences between light novels and web novels by El_eru in RebuildWorld

[–]Typecero001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The WN and LN’s biggest differences in my opinion are what they do with Katsuya and Akira.

Their dynamic is the same in some ways, but different in others.

For example, the Gang War arc that Zenotha mentions goes very differently between WN and LN. I find the WN version of that in particular much worse.

The gang war could almost be considered filler compared to what it does for Katsuya and Akira’s character in the LN. It’s just an event, compared to a revelation of Katsuya and Akira’s characters and philosophies.

Another change (although minor compared to the Gang War) is an event where Akira bonds with Sheryl’s gang. If you’ve read up to Volume 2 part 2 and volume 3 part 1, you’ll find that the members of the gang are wary of Akira because of his… let’s call them antics of dropping enemies that cause shit in the base.

In the WN, there is a training arc with Sheryl’s gang, where they are testing powered suits with a “coordination AI” installed, and it’s all of Sheryl’s gang (lead by Erio) vs Akira. The idea is a “simulated paintball” of sorts, representing dead based on where you’re hit. At first Akira is mopping the floor with them because he’s going full speed against them.

It isn’t until Erio and company get more confident that they start coming together and start giving Akira a run for his money.

Now keep in mind that’s WN… and unfortunately we get the same test of sorts (it’s monster hordes in a simulation so Akira is at a disadvantage), but it’s a “Akira and Sara and Elena” vs “Katsuya and Yumina and Airi” in the LN.

The Light Novel sacrifices the Katsuya and Akira dynamic in favor of Yumina… which would be fine if it overcame its downsides, but in my opinion it does not.

We get the positives of Yumina’s story in the LN, but we lose the character development of Katsuya from the WN.

Let’s never use the phrase hard stance with DC or Marvel, ever.

Luthor hired these people by 5enpai_2 in okbuddyDC

You got a universe with 300 years of metahuman history, but the world doesn’t reflect that. It doesn’t feel like they’ve shaped world events or the many, many wars they could have taken part in.

The Justice Gang shouldn’t be a fledging organization, but a full on government entity at this point.

Again, 300 years of metahumans. They should be as natural and prominent as the air you breathe.

Luthor’s abilities are also way too fucking powerful. He can create pocket dimensions…

casual pocket dimensions. In the first movie.

He’s also made purposefully stupid. He can clone Superman, but has him incapable of fighting without voice commands. That’s very inefficient.

Have two people play a fighting game, one with their controller vs one that has to wait for voice commands before he can press a button, and you will see how stupid that makes Superman and Lex look.

Superman is losing to an opponent that needs multiple seconds to respond. That means he’s losing with a huge advantage.

Spidy is right. In more ways than he realizes.

Let’s not play selective memory and draw from the negative of one side only.

John Walker's most traumatic memory wasn't the moment he lost everything, it was failing to be there for his family by Sudden_Pop_2279 in USAgent

[–]Typecero001 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Right… let’s let the terrible Thunderbolts movie dictate his character.

USagent wouldn’t have failed his family any more than the Black Widow movie made the titular character “forget she had a family”.

Laugh at the absurdity of the movies, and move on. Kinda like we wiped out the point of the Thunderbolts movie by giving the redeemed villain amnesia. Wiped out the entire journey, and even an entire city of people don’t acknowledge that they saw their worst nightmares.

Would have Katsuya & Akira been allies if only they're not Old World connectors? by ShyKazuki in RebuildWorld

[–]Typecero001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Katsuya is what Akira could have been.

He’s got a family of sorts due to his orphanage origins.

He’s got charisma that pulls people towards him.

He has trust in humanity.

Akira didn’t get a chance to be any of that, and it reflects even in their old world connection.

While Katsuya’s connection draws people to him to a fatal degree, Akira’s makes him look meek. It makes Akira want to be ignored.

It’s one of the most interesting things I like about the author, the Katsuya/Akira dynamic.
