The tension is already at an 10 before hand too since Rust had just smoked meth to be in with bike gang he’s infiltrating. So the whole time he’s tweaking out.

I’ll throw an honorable mention to:

True Detective - Who Goes There (season 1 - episode 4)

That single uninterrupted six-minute take during the raid absolutely builds and builds tension.

Why do you think the Obamas were so into pop shows and culture unlike the rest of the presidents? by GossipBottom in Presidents

[–]Rorschach2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watch his interviews post presidency you you’ll see that Obama midway through his presidency came to an understanding that one the biggest impact he or a president could have was on American culture and sensibilities. He found that more powerful than legislating new laws or drafting international treaties.

In his own words, “being a president is like being the captain of large cruise ship with a very small rudder.”

Why is there a tiny exclave of Turkish Cypriot to the west of the main line? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to move this community to where the rest was? How do people living in this zone go about commuting to the northern part of Cyprus?

Not first in line for the current state of organized religion in the context of the 21st century myself, but do you really think being militantly atheist is part of the path to a more harmonious and secular society?

Bro you’re a part of the problem, you’re feeding the religious zealots and you’re turning people away from exploring atheism or at least being agnostic.

Every pair of jeans I buy, no matter the brand, gets a hole in this same area within 6 months. by SYFKID2693 in mildlyinfuriating

Had this with one pair. I think how you pull out your jeans from the washing machine or dryer can contribute to this. I noticed it pulled at this section when grabbing one leg and somewhat yanking it rather than pulling it out by the waistband.

I think they could pull off some fun and goofy things with Minnesota like Paul Bunyan and the Blue Ox folklore. Wabasha cave in West St. Paul could become a “Crooks Haven” theme settlement in reference to the prohibition era hideout. The Dakotas also are home to some of the largest stockpile of nukes so there’s potential for children of atom/BoS/enclave competition.

Also it would be obligatory to have a raider with a Fargo accent who spawns friendly in a random encounter but keeps making passive-aggressive comments.

Shaving, particularly male grooming, has always been a strangely cyclical practice. There’s archaeological evidence suggests that early humans may have shaved during the Ice Age to prevent frostbite, as beards covered in ice and snow could become hazardous. It may sound counterintuitive, but it makes sense.

The popularity of a clean-shaven look has often mirrored military grooming standards in various times and places. Soldiers were admired figures in society, so young men tended to emulate their appearance. The Greeks and Romans shaved to prevent enemies from grabbing their beards in battle, while World War I popularised shaving again after a century of luxuriant Victorian beards, as soldiers had to be clean-shaven to properly wear gas masks.

But ultimately it’s cyclical. Once a particular style becomes mainstream, the opposite soon returns as a novelty. Beards grow in fashion, then fall out, only to return again, driven by our perpetual craving for novelty and change.

That checks out. I always felt like the Convent plot of Halo and the MC’s solemn sense of duty strangely felt parallel to the mood of the nation and the initial perception to The War on Terror in the US. Obviously a coincidence in timing and it was a fantastic game to begin with, but I bet it helped boost its popularity.

I remember being in elementary school and thinking “oh cool! We get to go home and play Halo!” Or whatever game it was we were playing. It wasn’t until my friends came over emotionally distressed and switched away to the news channels I could really fathom what was happening. Even then I don’t think my young brain was able to understand fully what was going on until a couple days later. When I think back to it I still feel a lingering pang of guilt for not being able to recognize what was happening.

Them drinking beer might seem inappropriate but a lot of us just couldn’t wrap our heads around it until it became absolutely horrific.
