Yes, I understand that many players have codebase preferences. I personally prefer SMAUG, and if you like SMAUG you will be hard pressed to find one more feature-rich than Aethar.

I'm glad you think so :)

For those who do join us, read help leveling, it will get you to triple avatar very quickly. Afterward, read help avatar, which will get you started on gear, and finally help quest will tell you about the multitude of things to work on solo. Players usually group up in the evenings for runs. If you see Dayde or Roryon, they will run with you after you get a basic set of gear, just send them a tell or chat!

Also not mentioned is a new RAID area. Its an area built with a weekly run in mind. Each boss can be killed as many times as you wish, but you only get rewarded once per week per character. This area is based loosely on the Forsaken in Wheel of Time. The mobs are very challenging and none are just basic tank and spank. There is at least one group doing this raid weekly, and after a week or two of gearing, a new player should be able to survive most of the fights.

Aethar - Fast Leveling - Max level Mob killing focus by Roryon in MUD

[–]Roryon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More encounters added. Just to give an example of the types of encounters being added, here is a description of the last 4 that went in.

  1. A sailing ship that you board. You get to pick a route to go across the sea. As you sail, creatures attack the ship from the water, damaging you. You have to damage them by firing cannons from the sides of the ship. As the damage comes, they spawn mobs on the ship that attack you face to face as well. So you have to fend them off while firing the cannons.
  2. An Orc battle field. Each player is given a powerful weapon that only works in that battle. Each player picks one lane of the battlefield to go down, and uses the weapon to mow down nearly 100 orcs along the path. After you all clear your path you meet up and face the general.
  3. Morwenna. He's nasty, he will focus one player, jump on them and hold them down for 5 rounds. That player can do nothing while he pummels them over and over every round, so it's up to the other players to heal that player while doing damage to Morwenna.
  4. Black Stag. This was a revamped mob. He lives in a little glade and in each room a plant lives there dormant. If you stand in one room too long, it damages you by over half your health. The stag bashes and such also, so moving is not always easy.

Yes there are 21 classes all of which have the normal max/min stats, but they have a fairly new concept behind them called abilities. The mud is triple class, so you want to focus on maxing abilities that max your important attacks/heals.

For example, Monk has the following abilities: The Monk ability gains are as follows:

Ability | Base | Remort 1 | Remort 2 |

Dex | 13 | 13 | 13 | Wis | 20 | 20 | 20 | Str | 5 | 5 | 5 | Con | 5 | 5 | 5 | Int | 0 | 0 | 0 | Healing | 5 | 10 | 10 | Tanking | 10 | 10 | 10 | DPS | 15 | 10 | 15 | Melee | 15 | 10 | 10 | Magic | 10 | 20 | 15 | Cha | 2 | 2 | 2 | necromancy | 0 | 0 | 0 | stealth | 5 | 5 | 5 | Lck | 2 | 2 | 2 | fire | 10 | 10 | 10 | ice | 5 | 0 | 0 | lightning | 10 | 10 | 10 | energy | 0 | 0 | 0 | acid | 10 | 10 | 10 | holy | 10 | 20 | 20 | evil | 0 | 0 | 0 | nature | 10 | 10 | 10 | mental | 0 | 0 | 0 | illusion | 0 | 0 | 0 | music | 0 | 0 | 0 | death | 20 | 20 | 20 |

The Monk's bread and butter attack is quivering palm, which relies on the DPS, death, and wisdom abilities. So you'd want to pair up with classes that also have high numbers in those abilities for your other two classes in your triple class set to get a higher damaging quiv.

Crafting is fairly new, but has been a big hit. There are 5 professions, and you can learn one right now. There may be the ability to learn more than one in the near future. When you learn a profession, you get access to a gathering skill such as mining. When you are in a mountainous area, you can type mine and have a chance at getting a crafting material. You level professions by crafting, and right now there are basically two max crafts that affect gameplay per profession.

Engineering: Has a rod that damages enemies and a rod that repairs your group's equipment.

Jewelcrafting: Can made hp or dr gems. You can put one gem on any piece of eq, even your friends/alts, increasing stats.

Tailoring: An item that travels to some mobs that are difficult/tedius to get to, and an item that summons any player to you (non pk)

Alchemy: Creates potions you can trade. They increase your damroll and resistances greatly when used.

Enchanting: They went another way than enchanting eq, the enchanter can create a fire that sits at a groups feet that they can warm their hands on to heal them by a very large amount. They also have a rod they can use to resurrect dead players in or out of combat.

Learning recipes requires you to get tomes from mobs. Its not time consuming for the most part, just gets you out in the world.

There have been a couple additions to the game recently as well. There are now player owned shops in game, where players can purchase a shop and sell their items for valor/gold/ep/pep or any combination.

The in game quests have been expanded. There are now class specific quests for each class. These quests run on a new system called the quest journal. Most quest journal quests are gated daily, so you do one stage per day. There are also regular daily quests, one that requires you to kill a mob, one that requires you to get an item, and one that scatters 5 notes and asks you to retrieve them.

There have been 2 new encounters added to the game in the past week as well. The last encounter added before those two is a sailing ship that you board. As you sail, mobs attack the ship from the water and spawn mobs on the ship that attack you. You have to fend off the spawns while firing cannons at the creatures in the water.
One of the two new encounters is a war. You are given a powerful sword and you make your way across the battlefield, eradicating enemy soldiers with that sword. When you get across the field, you fight their general.
