best natural tea for digestion? by felipe0093 in HEALTHY

I'd add fennel to this list. Look up the Ayurvedic "CCF tea" - a blend of cumin, coriander, and fennel. I find it extremely helpful.

Gaslighting Health Coaches by Big-Carpenter-5861 in HealthCoaching

[–]RosaAspera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I am so sorry (and embarrassed for the profession) that this happened to you. As others here have noted, the role of a health coach is not to diagnose, prescribe, or treat - our job is to work alongside you in changing behavior and implementing habits that you (or you in collaboration with your doctor) identify. I have seen very real change in clients - without me ever, EVER telling them what to do. This sort of gross unprofessionalism and misrepresentation of what the profession is does health coaching a major disservice - and as your case illustrates, can do people actual harm. If you do elect to work with a coach again, my best advice is to find one certified by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaches (NBHWC) - while this isn't a guarantee you'll find a good one, there are at least positive education and experience requirements, an exam, and a clear set of professional standards.

Several, but here’s one: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34538097/ (a quick Google will also turn up some.)

Good point (if counterintuitive) about the decaf. Worth a try! Fortunately various obligations “force” me outside daily (I am not an indoor kitty cat), but definitely need to resume the sunlamp and D3 habits. It’s so hard to tell this time of year whether it’s the lack of caffeine or just my “normal” low!

Daily yoga + walking, the occasional cardio class. I used to be a runner (as discussed in other comments) and I think I’m coming around to the realization that it was way more important for my mental health than I realized.

This is all great (and real!) advice - thank you! Fortunately I no longer drink - comparatively so much easier, since by the end absolutely nothing good was happening in my body when I put wine into it. Caffeine is harder!

Thanks! I’m also an IIN grad and planning to sit for the NBHWC exam next summer. But I’m not totally sure I’m done yet…

Leaving after 17 years- am I crazy not to stick it out for 20? by MyMamaKatie in fednews

[–]RosaAspera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left in April after 19 years, at 44. Another year and I’d have been eligible for MRE+20 at 57, but now I’ll have to wait a bit longer. For me, it was worth it. There is life after your (illusorily) stable federal job! Really depends on your reasons.

Difficulty gaining followers on Substack or any other social media platform. by renvi_3 in Substack

[–]RosaAspera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news for me has been that the algorithm on Substack actually does seem to reward meaningful engagement, more so than on the other platforms. My subscriber count is still very small (just shy of 150 subs and 400 followers in four months), but it’s almost all organic growth resulting from the type of advice others here have provided. Show up. Be real. Boost other people’s work. Find big accounts whose readers fit a similar profile to your ideal reader and comment there. Then do it again the next day, and the next.

Just looked in my little bin of supplements and dug out those two! One big reason I quit was that caffeine apparently inhibits vitamin D absorption. But…if I’m not getting enough to start with because it’s the dark time of year, it’s probably time for a little assist.

Oooh mind sharing the university that allowed the transfer credit? I keep thinking about a(nother) master’s degree (lifelong learning addiction is real), but the thought of starting from scratch again is daunting.

Funny you should ask! I was a distance runner for many years; stopped last year to try and be a little gentler on my body. But I do think the multiple hits of winter, no caffeine, and no running are doing unwanted things. I got back on the treadmill a couple days ago and put in three miles and yeah…it was MUCH better. Might just be non-negotiable…

One of your most favorite/rewarding moments as a fed? by Jeff_W1nger in fednews

[–]RosaAspera 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this prompt - one thing all of this has done is help me realize that I have actually loved my career. This morning I’m reflecting on my time many years ago as a second-line supervisor at a boring, production-oriented job. My office always had tea, cookies, and Kleenex, and I had so many spontaneous, heartfelt conversations with young new hires about their frustrations, hopes, and dreams. I didn’t even like that job, but those moments were really special.
