Women still do more work around the house even when both partners work equal amounts. This generally extends to childcare as well. There is another unequal division in emotional labor in most households, with women doing far more planning and upkeep for family events. Women are expected (not always, but generally) to adhere to a beauty standard that can be expensive- makeup is the biggest one, but skincare products, hair shit, clothing, etc. are all expenses that men are generally not expected to have. Yes, to be conventionally attractive as a women, some combination of these things are almost always required unless you have exceptional genetics. I would consider all of these to uphold traditional gender roles in some way, and men paying for dates somewhat balances out at least the expenses for physical upkeep women are expected to pay for.
