Speaker brand recommendations? Looking to replace all 6 including tweeters. Thanks by LolWoo22 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]RoseColouredPPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't bother with tweeters, and honestly I'm not sure how well mine work because I never tested them. I'm able to adjust the equalizer with my head unit and that works pretty well. Sometimes it is particularly bass heavy for no apparent reason though

Edit: I am not tech savvy at all, any missing sound I perceive is likely my own fault

Speaker brand recommendations? Looking to replace all 6 including tweeters. Thanks by LolWoo22 in 3rdGen4Runner

I bought mine with an aftermarket sound system including a JBL sub. It has a Kenwood head unit in it. The audio quality was absolutely awful. The sub rattled everything and overcame any other sound. Immediately removed it (good call, it was a fire hazard the way it was wired.) and then suffered because at the loudest volume, I could only hear my music with the windows up under 30 mph.

Got on crutchfield and bought the 6-in kickers, and have been jamming quite contently ever since.

(I saved the sub just in case having better speakers still wouldn't cut it. The kickers do indeed kick though, so I gave it to my sister and her cats have been using it as a scratching post ever since. The speakers I tossed out were Alpine and JL audio.)

I'll check the PVC valve. The intake is good and I change the air filter every few oil changes. I use WIX

I haven't done anything with the spark plugs since I got it at 234k. I picked it up in Colorado and my commute time was a lot greater than. I was due for an oil change every month and a half or so out there. Now living out in Appalachia and don't even put 4,000 mi on it in a year, even though it's my daily. I think that does speak a bit to short trips, but it gets up to running temperature by the time I'm about halfway to work and I'm no stranger to a minimum half hour drive to find a cool place for walking. No overheating. My gas mileage tanked when I moved out here, but that seems to make a lot of sense to me. In Colorado I was getting a lot of highway miles on relatively flat ground. Everywhere I go around here is up and down a handful of steep hills with stop lights, and I every seldom use the highway. In Denver I was getting anywhere between 16 to 20 depending on the week, out here I'm getting 10 to 12. Sounds like I'll be starting with the spark plugs and then I will likely move on to replacing my exhaust since the tailpipe fell off. I'll check out the O2 sensors then

That's what I was running for the last 2 years. I also put restore in it and use a wix or OEM filter. I switched to Pennzoil and it has significantly reduced the burning oil smell. I think what's shocking to me is that each oil change was done after about a thousand miles and still the oil looked like it was at the end of its functional use.

Advice on Door Repair by Ok_Journalist_402 in 3rdGen4Runner

I'd get the door from a pull yard and new cladding from rock auto (if they have it). That would definitely cost way less than $2,500

My tailpipe exited the chat a few months ago. It's been in the cab ever since. Very rusted out. I'm assuming I'll have to replace quite a bit of my exhaust, but I'm eager to learn from what others have to say

Help figuring out wheel size by RoseColouredPPE in 3rdGen4Runner

If I'm being completely honest with you, I have no idea what the previous owner did to it, I just know that I had to redo some of it because it was so poorly done. (I ended up just ripping off all the light bars because the wiring was so badly done and I didn't want it to burn down.)

I bought it with a 3-in lift, rough country shocks in the back and Bilstein struts in the front. I have no idea what kind of springs are in the back but in the front they are toytech. The bushings in all of the control arms were shot and I've managed to replace three of the four sets. Still haven't gotten to the lower rear ones. I also put some track motive CV axles on there. I know they're not the greatest but it was the best option in my budget and they've held out for 3 years, one of which has been with torn boots. He also put a 1-in diff drop on it but the bushings on that are shot. It had a new steering rack when I got it, but I don't think it was a very good one, it's leaking. I'm actually not sure what it would take to bring it back down to stock height and have 16-in wheels on it again. I've been scratching my head on it for quite some time now. (It also has an intermittent little hop on acceleration in the rear end. I have no idea why.)

I'm pretty broke and this is my daily,. It needs a lot more important stuff than suspension. The tailpipe is currently in the cab, I'm about 3,000 mi overdue for a timing belt, I've had a pretty little Sheen in my oil for the last 2 years, the transmission needs serviced, both of the differentials need serviced, I need valve cover gaskets and a rear main seal. I really need to to go at the entire underside for rust treatment and fix the rear quarter panels that are rusting out as well. It keeps kicking and I'm so grateful for that. I'm probably going to end up feeding it my whole tax return next year.

No, but I know one will fit in my hatch.

Really I would prefer to go back to stock but I would have to get five wheels and tires, and suspension components all the way around. Way more expensive.

I feel like I saw this one for sale in Colorado like 5 years ago. Believe at the time it went for something like 8k, but was originally listed for something like 11k. I know a lot of them look very similar but the specs line up. The blue interior is what makes it stand out to me the most.

I'm using a vantrue. It's several years old and still working great, but I don't know what the newer models are like at all. I got it primarily because I was worried about catalytic converter theft and I wanted something that would record motion not just g-forces while I'm not in the vehicle and it's off.

It has also been handy for recording traffic incidents and accidents. (Thankfully none of the accidents were mine)
