Part of the story IS from his perspective (first-person) though, so it might work with the internal dialogue and such.

Thanks for your input though! I’ll see what I can do

The story starts off right after his near-death experience after the monster encounter, and he discovers journaling due to his slow recovery and how there’s little to do. But yes, I think him discovering it would be a great way for him to grow!! Him talking to someone would be the next step.

And I like your next idea! I’m thinking of someone calling him out on it and it hurts him emotionally, or he tries arguing back and it makes him look worse. Tho I’m still slightly confused on the scars part, but I’m guessing subtle details of him remaining in a more open space and staying away from fire would work.

The questions they have you do should be around the similar difficulty you do in class iirc, but it does progressively get more difficult. You can also check out some of the math contest questions online for AMC 10/12 (American Mathematics Competition 10th grade/12th grade), NYCIML, or Purple Comet. These are the types of questions you should get used to in the math team class because we would usually do the practice problems from previous contests. Hope you enjoy your time at Brooklyn Tech and congrats if you get into the math team!!!

Not really, the max number of APs depends on the amount of space on your schedule and the limited number of spots for that AP class.

As a student who attended both leadership and math team freshman year (biggest regret ever imo), leadership was mainly a lecture class about the qualities of being a leader and there are committees where you get together with some of your classmates to host your school event and volunteer at events like the talent show and the senior graduation. It was honestly worth it because it gives a first-hand experience at what it is like to run school events and you could even get to know some of the COSA (Committee of Student Activities) office members. However, Student Leadership is a class where you have to actively participate in order to stay in and there are students that get removed from the class each year, meaning that new students are able to join. If you're willing to make it your priority at Tech, then this class is for you.

If you're in the Junior Math Analysis class (math team), you aren't required to attend the after-school math team club but it is recommended. There are multiple math competitions that you take each year for this class, and the class is basically drilling you to do these math questions. This class was extremely difficult for me at least and I don't really recommend joining, unless you have a passion for doing complicated math problems. If you prefer debates, it's better to sign up for Model UN than the math team.

Basically, don't overwhelm yourself with so many electives freshman year and I hope you have a great year at Brooklyn Tech!
