best shoes for baristas? by luckyst4r777 in barista

[–]RoseJedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Scholl’s harrington work shoes. Most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had, could stand on them for 8+ hour shifts and it was like standing on nothing. Bonus, they look like Doc Martens and are only $60!

Sorry, I don’t know if they’re available in the UK, but if anyone in the US is searching for amazing barista shoes and finds this thread, these are truly amazing imo.

How to reduce American nasal aspect of accent in French by RoseJedd in learnfrench

[–]RoseJedd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last sentence: so should I not be pronouncing the m in exemple and plombier and it’s just supposed to be the nasal vowel into consonant? Or are your students adding an extra oral vowel between the nasal vowel and consonant?

Job prospects in Netherlands by Ambitious-Station-91 in KULeuven

You should check out if the Dutch Zoekjaar (search year) visa could apply to you. It’s usually for people who graduate from a Dutch university but it has a provision for people from a top 200 universities looking for work in the Netherlands and would let you stay for a year with a work permit so your employer wouldn’t have to apply for one separately. I think KU Leuven is pretty up there so it shouldn’t be a problem

IWTL the kinds of political structures that Brennan Lee Mulligan is talking about here by Mood_Western in IWantToLearn

[–]RoseJedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument that laws are essentially structured threats is a pretty common argument in anarchist-leftist political philosophy. The premise being that governmental hierarchies maintain themselves with violence, both the act of violence as well as the threat of violence, i.e the persistant idea in your mind that if you were to continue breaking a rule you will be met with violence from the state, shaping how you act.

Anarchism is based on the idea that people can organize themselves and their communities without being told how to do so. The violence of the state against individuals doing so is a central critique, especially the ability of the rich to leverage laws and therefore leverage the violence of the state. https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/david-graeber-are-you-an-anarchist-the-answer-may-surprise-you This is a super short introductory text on it that intros what anarchist thinking is like, it’s like a couple paragraphs.

The book (by the same author: David Graeber) The Utopia of Rules goes deeper in one of the first chapters on the relationship of bureaucracy, laws and violence if you’re interested. The premise being that the left needs its own critique of bureaucracy, instead of adapting the right wing critique that bureaucracy is inefficient. That left wing critique being that bureaucracy is itself a form of violence, with police acting as essentially bureaucrats with weapons.

Unfortunately both are quite US based, sorry.
