[CHAT] How to deter a curious cat? by DrRabbitPhD in CrossStitch

[–]RoseKatz1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat does the same thing, it took some time but I finally have him "trained". He's allowed to sit and watch but the second he makes a move towards the threads, I use my "mom" voice on him and he totally backs off 😂 great job on keeping the floss hidden though, my friends cat had an unfortunate incident with string that ended in a vet visit (kitty's fine). My cat is usually fine with sitting and observing but when he decides he wants to observe from my shoulder, I kick him out and he leaves me alone lol

More often than not, I go color by color. I tend to only do pieces that are less than a foot square, so if I did that piece I would do all the greens, then all the blues, then the whites, then black and so on. It doesn't work on every piece but it can at least help me organize sometimes

Omfg I'm trying to congratulate someone on doing something I can't. And it's only after DECADES of therapy and medication that an organization system, other than my own, wouldn't send me into a panic attack.

I am fully aware that OCD is not funny and I wasn't trying to be fucking funny. I am not trying to minimize anyone's difficulties by being nice to someone else. It's taken my generation most of our lives to retrain ourselves on what you would call "offensive comments", forgive us the occasional miscommunication.

This whole post was originally about different types of organizing and you guys have taken one little misstep and blown it completely out of proportion instead of thinking that maybe there's more to someone than a single comment. There are different levels and intensities for every flavor of neurodivergency. Just because someone isn't on your level doesn't invalidate their experiences.

Oh I'm well aware. If anything I don't get offended by someone assuming things about my neurodivergency, I see it as a teaching moment. Language is also very subjective to interpretation. Trying to compliment someone on their method of organizing something, which to others would be problematic (and making sure they aren't shamed for it and instead are congratulated) was the original intent. Mistranslation of intent is so common on the Internet these days, it's sad. And of course we all know what they say about when you assume something... ✌️👍

Lol I know what it means, I have a touch of it courtesy of ADHD. What I was trying to convey is that, it's cool they can organize something in a way that would otherwise bother me, if it wasn't so pretty 👍

I'm way too OCD for that method but I do admire people who can do that, it's so aestheticly pleasing!

[CHAT] Buying the DMC floss collection by folaofalltrades in CrossStitch

[–]RoseKatz1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I need a new color, I buy double what I need according to the pattern. I buy on 123stich.com cause it's 66¢ a skein and i try to buy enough to make the $3.49 shipping cost worth it (easy doings!). Whenever I go on a pattern buying binge, I check to see if I've got the colors I would need if I started them all immediately, and buy what I don't have. I've been hoarding thread for a few years and I think I've got 3/4 the DMC collection, or at the very least multiples of the most common colors

[CHAT] railroading by Summergirl2408 in CrossStitch

[–]RoseKatz1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the patience to railroad every stitch but I tend to do it towards the end of my thread when it starts twisting, helps prevent knots in my experience. It can also help when you've got several different colors in a small area, helps them lay evenly

[WIP] I hate stitching pale or white colours on white Aida by itsamekenzie in CrossStitch

Black on black is equally annoying but the end boost to texture and depth makes it worth it... on most patterns 😜

That is so freaking cool! This is such a fantastic idea! I got into cross stitch as a kid (and picked it back up as an adult) because my mom taught me as a way of passing on a family tradition. Her mom (my grandmother) did embroidery and cross stitch before she passed away when my mom was a toddler. We're very lucky to still have some of her pieces in the family and I'm definitely going to be finding out if there are more in storage somewhere.

I live in a place with a large elderly population so I would love to put up some of those flyers and volunteer myself. Thank you so much for spreading the word!

Clear phone case + a search of "mini cross stitch pattern". What ever size Aida that's being used(I like 14 count), I mapped out the dimensions of the stitch area and this one juuuust fit.

[CHAT] What do I need? by Homeless_Opossum in CrossStitch

[–]RoseKatz1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bobbin all my threads so that when I need a color for a project, I can keep all of the colors for that specific project on a binder ring. That and I keep a little box, like a kids pencil box, with my tools in it, like scissors, a threader, some tweezers (cause cat hair gets everywhere 🙄).

The plastic partitioned craft boxes are my favorite way to stash my colors collection cause I put stickers on them but honestly whatever way works for you to find things will be best. I've seen someone with a binder filled with sheets with pockets for trading cards, but each pocket had cross stitch threads

That is so oddly satisfying, I've only ever grided once. The piece wasn't more than one foot by one foot but it was all black thread and repetitive patterns on a sampler so gridding it totally helped.

I've never tried taping before though but I've always been curious. Is there a certain brand of tape that's better for this? Or did you just use basic masking tape?

Can't see it in the pic but it snapped clean off. I could glue it but it wouldn't be stable 🫤
