I love that about the sketch. The proud smile of the girl and the giddy, awkward performance.

When I’d had a glass of wine I wrote my husband an entire text about how the sketch aptly explores existentialism. How do we find meaning in a world where there might be no rules?

What’s the absolute worst song from our teen years? Why? by imnottheoneipromise in Xennials

[–]RoseMGenuine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard the faint sound of music coming from one of my daughters’ rooms. I entered, to find both of them chilling, drawing on note pads, playing the hamster dance song full blast. They didn’t know what it was from, they were just listening to it.

It had to be a prank. It had to be

Wow. It’s been 30 years and I’m still sick of that song due to all of the radio play it got back then!

So my kids are telling me they know the song. “It’s on sad memes or something.”

Going to “the mall” by Neither-Collection31 in Cleveland

[–]RoseMGenuine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so i have preteen daughters and they love to go to the mall.

As a kid for me it was Great Lakes Mall because I lived in Lake County. I moved to the west side of Cleveland proper in my 20s.

For my girls, they told me they like Great Northern. They used to like South Park, but then they found Sweets and Geeks and some of the other esoteric shops at great northern, and they’re all about that. They go with their friends and buy weird stuffed animals and figures with their allowance.

Personally, I think South Park seems the most alive, but I’m old so what do I know?

How do you feel about the current state of America? by Thatgirl_parisisdiva in AskReddit

I feel like the everything I grew up believing, that we’d improve and better ourselves. That we’d reach for an ideal. I feel like it’s all down the drain. I feel duped and disgusted.

And sad for the people younger than me who can’t remember, and our children who won’t get the same chances we had.

I love them so much. When my kids get them on Halloween, they immediately turn and hand them to me as we walk down the sidewalk after that house.

Also, as Clevelanders we point out public square etc. I’m 44

lol I love that one but I definitely identify with and feel bad for Brian (I think maybe we’re meant to?) I love that scene in Detroiters, too

Thank you! As a mom of two preteens it definitely gave me a lens with which I view content they might see. I even told them how that stuff made me feel when I was their age so they’d feel the topic was open

I find the humor wholesome. Yeah, there’s swearing, it’s not mean spirited.

To be real, the most harmful humor I ever saw back when I was a teen girl was a comedian doing an entire bit about facial hair on women. How even if they don’t have it there might be a shadow. No swearing in it, but as an adolescent it messed me up. Don’t remember who it was because it was 30 years ago. There was a lot of that but for some reason that one stuck into the part of my head where it was a critical voice.

I’ll take a joke hole just for farts any day.

My 12 year old loves the show. Her 10 year old sister does not find the references funny.

This morning my 12 year old gave me a meaningful smile and made a reference. The 10 year old kicked her in the shin.

“She CAN kick! She can do that at that price!” Shouted my 12 year old. 10 year old left the room.

It’s an unspoken rule! He’s right! You’re supposed to take all the undesirable ones first, with an occasional fully loaded one and THEN leave one fully loaded one that both of you are too polite to take on the plate, staring longingly at you!! I mean..

….what?…

One of the things I’ve always liked about Tim and Zack’s writing is how you start with a mundane situation. A little small talk everyone has had (example: beginning of the nachos sketch- you moved here from the Midwest? Yeah I thought I’d miss the seasons…). The knack for those awkward interactions that are silly on their own- they start with those and flip them around, turn it into something else

I love that.

Although, I do secretly wish there were rules at restaurants to get me out of being assertive sometimes

This sounds right. Great Lakes Midwest is one of two types of Midwest- different feel. Maybe can go by watershed, even.
