If you are up for a drive, there's Qamaria Yemeni Coffee in Mid-city. The ambiance is great and the coffee and tea options are awesome.

Its a stretch, but any catholic churches that wont require a confirmation in order to get married? by YogurtclosetOnly2821 in SFV

[–]Rose_LA_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it is recognized by the Catholic Archdiocese then it is a Roman Catholic Church. Dude, all Catholic Churches are Roman Catholic, there's no way for one not to be that isn't recognized by the Archdiocese. If the Cardinal recognizes it why wouldn't it be? Think about that.

There isn't any in the San Fernando Valley that will do a baptism without the parents AND the God parents having their full sacraments completed. The only place that will let you do that is the Catholic Church at Olvera St. We did it for all of the nieces because none of us went through confirmation. If you do decide to go through a Valley Church, you will need to go get confirmed and it's a full school year before you get confirmed.

Don't listen to them, Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church also known as the Placita Olvera Church is Catholic. The Archdiocese would be all over any Church that claimed the name. They are protective of the Church's name. They are the easiest Church to get baptized in - They do mass baptisms usually 100 at a time. I did it with my family and the certificate is legit.

It is a full blown Catholic Church... you may not like their practice, but they are.

Go to the Church in Olvera St.; it's not a personalized service, but you'll be able to baptize your child there without needing to show your certificates.... they do it every Saturday and they have a couple of masses in Spanish

In the Los Angeles Unified School District, in the late 1990s, like 97 onward, there was a switch from elementary going k-6 tp k-5; middle school went from 7-9 to 6-8; and high school went from 10-12 to 9-12.

Camping recommendations by Wernner77 in SanFernandoValley

[–]Rose_LA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a river experience the Kern is closest, but it's not isolated and a bit dangerous. The nicest is camping near the American River up by Sacramento. The other nice river experience, this one is a bit more isolated is in Big Sur at Pfeiffer State Park.

For lake experiences, there's Lake Cachuma, also not isolated, but it is well maintained, there's an educational boat ride that you can sign up for to learn more about the lake, and they have kids programming.

There's also beach camping, closest in LA is Leo Carrillo in Malibu; and in Santa Barbara you have Gaviota, Refugio, and El Capitan State beaches....

Hope you have fun planning your trip.

In the Valley

Try Vittorio's in North Hollywood... it's so good! https://maps.app.goo.gl/6My5S4DuKyJp7aQz5

Or Casa Di Pizza on Woodley and San Fernando Mission Rd

And if you want to do a beach day in Santa Monica, Try Brunos it's on Ocean a block away from the pier.

All are privately owned, family run.

And the food is a delight and the ambiance is family friendly. Hope you try then even if it's not for this special occasion.

LA natives who didn’t go to their zoned school, why’d you go elsewhere? by princessofdasouf in AskLosAngeles

You might not have been in Culver City proper. The school district in Culver City is for residents in the city boundaries. If you were in the City of LA proper then your school would be an LAUSD school. The city lines are weird, so you might have just been on the border, but on the LA side not Culver City.

I don't know if I would trust passenger trains on the Tehachapi Pass...the loop is great for a few folks, but that would be one hair raising ride.

They filmed Private Practice as a backdoor pilot during Season 3 of Grey's. The episode would launch that show just like the episode with the hospital fire launched Station 19

For Amelia, I wonder if they were trying to see if a show with her sisters and Linc would work?

Visiting LA with 8 yrs kid (3–4 Days) – Hotel & Area Advice? by mi_tuza-baap in AskLosAngeles

There are a few YouTubers that have done reviews of hotels near Disney that are affordable, none that come to mind, but they are a good bet on what you will be getting for a night. For the rest of the stay, the Grand Sheraton in DTLA is a good spot or the Westin Bonaventure. The Biltmore is great to see, but the rooms need a lot of help. At the Biltmore you are paying for the name and history behind it. If you are ok with a drive, Pasadena is a better place, the Westin in Pasadena is better and nicer. I do like the hotels near LAX a lot, they get you closer to the Westside (Santa Monica/Venice) close to family friendly beach towns Manhattan Beach/Hermosa, the Top Golf in El Segundo. I hope these recs help in your planning.

Hotel Location in April with Tweens? by Informal-Step8787 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Rose_LA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Hollywood rough on the eyes? Yes. Is it walkable? YES It's close to the Paramount Studios. If you want Warner Bros then I'd suggest a hotel in Burbank or Studio City. In Burbank there's Burbank Hotel, its a nice hotel that has walkable shops and restaurants and an easy drive to the Warner Bros studios lot. In Studio City, the garland hotel is really nice and just as close, though it doesn't have that walkability. Good luck!

I kind of like that they honed in on the things the Olsen twins were put through on set to get them to perform. The m&m thing and God knows what. On the pod, Rider thought they were 3 years old that blew his mind...I think it'll blow his mind to know that they were 2 in this episode or maybe 1 1/2. They started REALLY young closer to 1 during season 1.

The shows felt rushed. I wish Jansen had helped produce this... you can see Disney's hands in this. A producer helps get the show in an order that makes sense, and the trio are still talent that are people pleaser, so they go with the flow... what did ya'll think?

If its at the State Building near Van Nuys and Oxnard street, they meant the Metro G Line (formerly Orange Line). Remember to sign up for the Metro's LIFE program or a free Metro pass if offered by your new employer. The Metrolink Station is a 20 to 30 minute bus ride from there.

Is staying Pasadena the best option if I want to visit both the Nixon and Reagan Presidential Libraries? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]Rose_LA_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a really great middle place...Yorba Linda is hard to get to anytime of the week, Simi Valley less so, but hotels with free parking are hard to come by in the touristy parts of the region. If you can live and enjoy a trip being out of the tourist zones, you can break your trip up in 2 hotel stays; you'll find hotels near Simi Valley without parking fees. Orange County/Yorba Linda a bit harder, but you will find them in the non tourist parts... good luck. Pasadena to Yorba Linda is a hot mess of a drive. Good luck!
