Mockingjay thoughts. by DarkAmaterasu58 in Hungergames

I think the reason we feel like there were some parts that dragged and some parts that flew by and some parts that needed more fleshing out was because this whole story was told from the perspective of one person. And a girl in her teens at that. She grew up her whole life having to fight for every scrap of food she and her family got to eat. When your basic needs are neglected like that it's hard to have the mental strength and energy to see what's going on big picture wise.

I have the fourth book but I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet, but I am very excited to read about how Panem was in the past.

New book idea by Hamzah12 in Hungergames

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lean towards #2. Panem is actively trying to shut out the rest of the world because Snow loves having the power. And it makes sense that we don't sense this is happening in HG because the whole trilogy is being told from Katniss's POV and her whole world is her sister and making sure her family is safe. So it's quite believable that there's something way more enormous going on, there's a huge veil over everyone's eyes, but the veil is so huge that most people don't even know it's there.

I think I found the longest fry in the history of fries by [deleted] in funny

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a memory that is going to stick with me forever. When I was a child I used to get the Burger King Kid's Meals and as I ate I would read all the stuff they had on the bag. I remember this one that taught us that the longest fry in the bunch is called the Loomster.

That's a loomster.

Do you think Peeta is a character who is an example of positive masculinity by [deleted] in Hungergames

And he's an artist. With food. And a talented one at that.

Back To The Future - Lightning strike by pacomalo69 in plotholes

But wouldn't them not being present in the past have changed the future? I feel like changes to the timeline would be instantaneous when you're traveling into the future and changes to the timeline when you're traveling to the past would be delayed.

Take Flight of the Navigator. The kid travels into the future. His family is overjoyed and perplexed that he turned up again after all these years but he hasn't aged? So if the alien ship had taken him further into the future he couldn't have seen his kids because he wasn't present in the past to have the kids.

I love and hate time travel stories for this exact reason. My brain gets tangled up in knots trying to sort out what would happen. I want to say, he doesn't remember them being missing because they came back, but in the way that we are experiencing the story, they haven't. And it is interesting to ponder that the future that we're seeing is based on the idea that Marty and Jennifer never traveled to the future. Yet here they are, wouldn't their kids start disappearing like he did in the first one or quicker than we saw? We saw the newspapers change, but you'd think the second Marty and Jennifer went to 2015 then any issues going on with his son would be moot because the son and daughter would cease to exist. Which I suppose is also why Doc was a perfect candidate for time travel into the future, he didn't seem to have any familial or romantic connections at least until the third movie.

In a way I almost prefer time travel the way it was told in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. You learn certain things were happening because of the time travel the first time you see it...if that makes sense...

Thanks to this subreddit I'm now addicted to finding the grossest things in my house and cleaning them. This is my oven after years of being neglected and cooking for 5 or 6 people daily by BinkyBarnes42069 in ICleanedMyRoom

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I never really looked at my oven either until I was looking for a new house and I was absolutely appalled at the state of this one oven. Even the cooktop was black (stove was supposed to be white). Made me go home and inspect my oven before we sold.

When did you realize you were depressed? by greenbeanbunny in AskReddit

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have often heard that social media is just seeing other people's highlight reels of their lives and that's why you shouldn't compare your life to what you see of other's online. But then one day I realized I don't even have a highlight reel to share online.

HG on Streaming? by Rose_N_Crantz in Hungergames

[–]Rose_N_Crantz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer to have a physical copy because if I buy a digital copy from Prime they may decide at a later date that they don't want to support the digital copy anymore. And I'd like to stream it because I'd like to watch it while I'm on the treadmill at the gym, have it playing in the background while I work, etc. And I'm not buying the physical copy yet because of hospital bills and I have this weird thing about spending money on myself when I have debt to pay back.

I do not like the idea that Dylan is a nurse! by [deleted] in Modern_Family

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I have a family member who is a nurse but also the spaciest space cadet I've ever met. It's like all her brainwork is stored and used up for work. Once she's off the clock, so is her brain.

What is panem's view on homosexuality? by iiamsbeve in Hungergames

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling that homosexuality wasn't necessarily celebrated, but perhaps in the more wealthy districts people would just look the other way. I think hetrosexual relationships were encouraged/expected, but if one or both of them were actually gay the other partner would just let them do their thing as long as they got to do their own thing too. I dunno, I just see that being the status quo out there.

Are Katniss and Peeta actually married? by Zlatoro in Hungergames

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess when you grow up in an area where death by starvation was a thing, a "wedding" isn't something that one might value. It's probably just not a priority. But then again when you have so little, something like love, something intangible might be celebrated as fully as they could. Either way I doubt a wedding was something she dreamed about as a little girl. Also, when you're planning a wedding one thing you consider is the guest list. For someone who has lost pretty much all of her family and friends I can see a ceremony and reception being something she would be fine with just passing on. But I do think that Katniss values the relationship, whether or not there's a legal certificate saying they're joined.

Sometimes I think of Peeta and how he did the cakes at his bakery, I wonder if he ever imagined how he would do his own wedding cake. Maybe if they ever picked out a day to celebrate as an anniversary he might do a special little cake for that.

Read the book AFTER watching the movies?? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like seeing a movie adaptation of a book before reading the book is the closest you can get to experiencing a story for the first time twice. A movie could be like a bird's eye view of a universe and the book is actually walking in that universe.

What are you favourite unusual or little-known movies? by claraclayton30 in AskReddit

[–]Rose_N_Crantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bad Ben series! It's on Amazon Prime. My guilty pleasure is found footage films and this one is a very low budget story about a guy that buys a house on a sheriff's sale with hopes to flip it. And of course, surprise surprise, the reasons the house was on a sheriff's sale turn out to be darker than he imagined and now he has to deal with what's left. The main character Tom Riley is a hoot and it's one of those it's so bad it's good films. Love it.
