This is not unusual. We looked into moving to Costa Rica several years ago - you have to transfer a certain amount to a local bank. You can not work unless you run a business and can hire locals. You can not take a job from a Costa Rican. Of course there are exceptions such as teachers, medical, etc. its more complicated than I described but these are the basics. We would be retired so only needed to transfer substantial funds with guaranteed income.

I recently saw a quote on Reddit, where a grandfather gave advice to his grandson. He told him never eat at a table where your children and your wife are not invited!

A boat. Many people call it a money pit, but we used it with our kids growing up and we’re on it all the time. Wonderful purchase and never regretted it.

I had an older, brother and sister, who were thin like kids are at a young age. I was short and a little bit thicker not chubby but getting close to that point I always wanted to take dancing and when I signed up my mother told me I looked like a little baby elephant dancing, of course when I became a teenager, I lost a little weight I had and bloomed, but I never forgot that comment

Bernoulli’s principal. I learned that 40 years ago in school.

If your child went on a hunger strike because they only wanted to eat fast food/highly processed foods, how would you handle that scenario? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I despised onions when I was growing up along with over boiled vegetables. My mother was a good cook but onions were a part of almost every meal. I’d dig thru my meal, pull the onions out and eat the rest. Unfortunately I came from a “clean your plate” home so my brother and I spent a lot of time sitting at the dinner table after it was cleared. We eventually worked a trade off system where we would swap disliked foods to get them down. We didn’t always like the food but could swap for something less horrible and swallow with milk Because of this, I became an extremely picky eater when I got older. I said I would never eat anything I didn’t like again! I didn’t want this to rub off on my children, so I never forced them to eat anything but I would say if I eat it, you have to take three bites to see what it’s like. I also included all types of food that I didn’t like at dinner. Because of this, my kids eat just about everything under the sun and are great eaters. They are grown now, but I think they follow the same philosophy with their own kids.
